A first of its kind operation test was held a short while ago, in which a Barak 8 missile fired from an Israeli Navy ship succesfully intercepted an enemy target. Defense officials registered an 100% success rate for the test. The missile is set to defend navy ships from anti ship missiles like the yakhont missile, which Hezbollah currently posses.
The yakhont is a Russian supersonic anti-ship cruise missile the Hezbollah deploys, but this interceptor is designed to defend against all kinds of threats including aircraft and drones, and is paired with an insane radar that can detect multiple threats at a ridiculous range.
Its also interesting to note that the Barak 8 is a joint Israel-India project.

It's weird to me that Israel's answer to a missile attack is to shoot it down with a more expensive missile system, but maybe the laser systems aren't very effective against over-the-horizon supersonic missiles.

Kinda spooky how fast it's gone.

It'd be fine if it was any other currency but we all know that using US dollars automatically quadruples the price of anything military
Oh my god, Barack Obama VIII is shooting down our missiles
whoevers on the receiving end of this missile should really
barak 8 themselves in really good

The military deals in theoretical money. We have simple bearing rate calculators we use on submarines, nothing more than 2 pieces of plastic, but according to the military they are 250 bucks a pop. Nobody is really spending 250 dollars on that shit, talking about how much military stuff costs is a waste of time because it's just a bunch of meaningless numbers.

It's not the price of the interceptor that counts. It's how much it would have cost not to intercept.
For example, the Barak 8 may be more expensive than a Yakhont, but it's sure as fuck cheaper than the navy ship or gas platform it could hit if not intercepted.
Right now other than supporting terrorism the only way Israel's enemies can threaten us is with rockets and missiles. Israel's constantly improving missile defenses have not only insane value in strategic terms, but for morale as well.
I mean seriously, I lived through a couple of times when there were rockets streaking though my sky, burning debris in the streets, bomb sirens going off... the works. Trust me, it's not something you want to experience too often. Knowing you're constantly becoming more untouchable to this shit is worth every shekel when you have to live with every missile in the Middle East pointed at your head.
