The star, famed for his role as Coronation Street binman Eddie Yates, died on Friday night "peacefully in his sleep" after a "long courageous battle" with prostate cancer, according to his family. Hughes also played Twiggy in TV comedy The Royle Family and Onslow in Keeping Up Appearances.
I only saw him in The Royle Family, but he was one of the funniest characters on the show and seemed like a cheery guy. Sucks to see him go.
Oh my god not Twiggy!
Oh no, all these older television actors are dying. First Sherman Hemsley and now this? Well, they say celebrities die in threes so we'll have to see who's next.
Well, good on the peaceful bit. My grandma died of cancer horrible painful death.
: (
Not my Onslow!
Oh no, all these older television actors are dying. First Sherman Hemsley and now this? Well, they say celebrities die in threes so we'll have to see who's next.
Come on Rush Limbaugh
He was good in Keeping Up Appearances, Onslow was one of my favourite characters. He will be missed.
Why him, he was awesome
Nooo Vernon Scripps :(
Oh no...he was a great guy.
He's dead, are you shitting me?
We named our late cat after his character on keeping up appearances. :( RIP
Well, good on the peaceful bit. My grandma died of cancer horrible painful death.
So did my great grandfather. He was on anesthetics when he passed away, though.
Noooo, Mr Popplewick! He was such a versatile actor.
I'll forever remember him as the dodgy guy from heartbeat
:suicide:
Patrick Stewart, please don't be next.
Oh no, all these older television actors are dying. First Sherman Hemsley and now this? Well, they say celebrities die in threes so we'll have to see who's next.
you forgot andy griffith.
I also remember thinking "is that him holy shit" when he made a one-off in Skins.
Patrick Stewart, please don't be next.
He's only 70...ish.
He was good in Keeping Up Appearances, Onslow was one of my favourite characters. He will be missed.
He was a hilarious character in that show, and 68 is far too young for him to pass away. I have to confess I kind of worry a bit because my father is close to the same age and he is my source of strength. I have no idea what I would do without him.
Come on Rush Limbaugh
You shouldn't wish death on anyone.
He's only 70...ish.
People don't just die of old age (such as Geoffrey Hughes himself), the sad fact is anyone could be next. RIP Geoffrey Hughes.
The Royle Family will never be the same :(
Used to watch Heartbeat every Saturday when I was younger. Loved his character.
You shouldn't wish death on anyone.
Quite right. But there are a few obits that I would rejoice to read.
You shouldn't wish death on anyone.
Rush Limbaugh isn't a person so it's okay.
You shouldn't wish death on anyone.
What if it's someone evil like Hitler or Mussolini or a certain bitch of an indian ex girlfriend who broke a certain prooboo's heart?
