Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are one of the hottest hires around town, having lent their pens to two Transformers movies, Star Trek and its upcoming sequel, and they were just hired by Sony to rewrite The Amazing Spider-man 2. Unfortunately, the only project they did for Universal was the bomb Cowboys & Alien but the studio is banking that their track record will score them another winner.
The studio has signed the pair to a first look deal that will see Universal handing them the keys to a couple of important franchises they are planning to reboot. One is The Mummy which already has Prometheus writer Jon Spaihts penning the script, and the other is Van Helsing which has Tom Cruise attached to star and co-produce.
Van Helsing is one the studio has been working on for a while, eager to put the Stephen Sommers/Hugh Jackman version behind them. Back in June 2010, they hired Guillermo Del Toro to produce, with the writer/director/producer adding it to his already incredibly long to-do list. Tom Cruise was attached to star and produce, but then a month later Del Toro left Van Helsing to go make At The Mountains Of Madness. But it seems Cruise is still looking to hunt vampires (he's played one already) and as usual with the actor, it's one of a zillion things he's attached and it will likely depend on script/director/if-he-feels-like-doing-it if this ever happens.
Jesus fuck, they bitch about low turnouts, blaming it on piracy and the like, yet they fail to realise that the reason no one wants to see the films are because the films are basically a rehash of an older film (if 5 years or so counts as old) with no effort put into creating an original, interesting story.
the whole fucking industry is built off of sequels and remakes just come up with something original for fucks sakes
It's based on a comic book!
They've been trying new ideas, have you heard of Cowboys & Aliens? It's a relatively new concept and it completely failed.
Because it was uh, quite fucking bad. Trying something new doesn't mean you should give it no love.
Van Helsing was a really good movie
Pretty much said it all.

The Mummy was OK, but the sequels were awful.
I liked the mummy :c
seriously though the third one was acceptably lame ..and its a shame rachel weiz quit because i thought she was perfect. I don't however see how they think this will work out well.
Reboots rarely work and that's IF they use a classic old movie that genuinely would be interesting to see redone with new technology ..not one a few years old that was only pretty good and uses current tech anyway
I liked Van Helsing, They better not fuck up the reboot
Van Helsing was awesome. The Mummy wasnt too bad. But i remember Van Helsing more than The Mummy.
Reboots could work, we'll have to wait and see.
The Mummy was fine until the third one came out!
Who the hell cares, it was still a new idea, albeit it terrible.
It had a 160 million dollar budget, that's pretty far away from "no love".
You can chuck money at something but not actually care about it.
A good movie needs planning, proper storywriting and detail all sorted out beforehand, as opposed to chucking money and a deadline at something.

I'm amazed how they managed to use so much money and produce what was Cowboys vs Aliens. Should've added pirates and zombies in too, maybe ninjas.
The first and second Mummy were pretty cool, and Van Helsing was fucking badass. I am skeptical that Hollywood won't fuck these up though
Van Helsing was pretty rad. Tom Cruise is pretty rad.
Best thing about Van Helsing was Alan Silvestri's score. Its hard not to be excited in the opening.
I liked the original Mummy

PG13 :v:
I am not looking forward to a "The Mummy" remake.
Me and my dad have watched that movie to death and we like to talk over the characters and say their lines whenever we watch it.
My dad watched that newest Mummy movie (the one about the dragons or whatever), and said it just wasn't like the other Mummy movies.
Already? Neither of those movies are all that old. I know "Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" kinda sucked but c'mon.
I loved Van Helsing as a film. One of the few sort of modern films that doesn't portray vampires as a complete joke. Dracula in that film was a regenerating, gravity defying, impossibly powerful son of a bitch with 3 hot wives. We need more vampire films along those lines.
Hugh Jackman was a great van helsing.
I quite liked Van Helsing; I hope they bring back Hugh Jackman.
Also, would Hugh Jackman make a good Geralt of Rivia, if someone decided to make a Witcher movie that didn't end up bad?
Remake of a remake. At least they gave it 67 years last time.
Even though both movies were pretty bad I enjoyed watching them. Brainless entertainment is more fun than deep convoluted artsy stuff most of the time.
They aren't even that old, seriously hollywood you are out of ideas already?
Mummy reboot just for the body drilling scarab beetles
The Mummy was great, like everyone says, the sequels killed it.
I hope that the remake for Mummy is good and not shit.
I'd rather see Robert Downey Jr. do Van Helsing.
the mummy returns was the best one IMO
