https://news.xbox.com/2016/11/15/celebrating-15-years-xbox/
15 years ago today, the name Xbox became part of popular culture. As the first gaming console produced by Microsoft, the November 15, 2001 release of the Xbox in North America was a major moment for both the company and the entire games industry. The original Xbox console gave rise to beloved game franchises like Halo and Forza Motorsport, and helped usher in the online console gaming era with the release of Xbox Live. While it would be easy to go on and on about everything we love about Xbox, it’s easier to simply share some data that will help show just how much Xbox has grown in the last 15 years. Number of players: 222,468,423 Number of total gaming hours: 100,539,390,670 Number of total multiplayer hours: 29,000,304,183 Number of Achievements unlocked: 32,667,582,157 Gamerscore racked up: 572,605,554,587 Highest Gamerscore: 1,416,465 Number of Xbox Live friendships made: 4,233,891,482

A few of our teams are working on special giveaways and in-game events in honor of our 15 year celebration. First up, the Forza team is gifting a 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor complete with a custom livery celebrating Xbox’s 15th anniversary. All players will receive this livery for free and Forza Horizon 3 VIPs will receive a bonus truck with an alternative Xbox 15th anniversary livery as well. If you’re a Halo fan, if you simply log in to Halo 5: Guardians between November 15 at 10AM PT and November 22 at 10AM PT, you will receive a free “15th Anniversary REQ Pack”, which contains consumable items for use in Warzone game modes and the legendary Mark IV Gen 1 armor set, worn by Spartan IIs in the darkest hours of the Covenant War!
https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/news/halo-15th-anniversary-celebration
On November 15, 2001, I wasn’t working on Halo. I was working on Zoo Tycoon for the PC and Fuzion Frenzy for Xbox. I remember the E3 before the launch of our first Xbox and Halo: Combat Evolved – prior to that first console release, we were a PC gaming company mainly focused on titles like Flight Simulator, Age of Empires, Golf, and Pandora’s Box, amongst a host of others of course. We showed up at that E3 with a first-person-shooter on our console without a locked framerate – keep in mind that back in the day, the FPS genre was a PC-only domain. Needless to say, industry gossip ensued. What I love about Halo is it defied the odds on all levels. It brought the FPS to the console. It brought story to the FPS. And in my opinion, it made Xbox relevant (luckily, only my community team edits me so I can say whatever I want here!). Halo: Combat Evolved truly did change the game, and it did so in so many ways. For me it was the Silent Cartographer, the Magnum, the tranquility of my underwater drives in the Warthog, and the unpredicted fun of the Halo sandbox. As Halo hits its 15-year anniversary, I want to thank Bungie for having initially brought this world and game to life. I want to thank the fans for making Halo their own. And I want to thank our team at 343 for continuing to carry that torch forward. The Halo universe belongs to the community and it is an honor to serve you. Happy Birthday, Halo!
Halo 5 has a free Promo REQ Pack for today, along with a 15th anniversary playlist to play forge maps modeled after old halo maps they are also doing a livestream at 3:43pm PST.
Nah, it is the Pre-Halo 1 armour, the MK IV based on the armour from Halo Wars [t]http://i.imgur.com/V65UX6F.png[/t]
Thank god, the MK V armor is ugly as fuck in H5
is it sad that i have those armors unlocked already?
Halo nostalgia thread? I still love this old trailer from E3 2000, just before Microsoft bought Halo, and back when it was supposed to be a PC game. [editline]15th November 2016[/editline] I actually replayed through the first Halo somewhat recently. It's the first I play through the game in its entirety in years. It's so quaint, especially with the hindsight of what Halo eventually became. The first game was such a simple and straightforward game about this huge cool looking and mysterious ring. If anybody hasn't seen the commentary for Halo 1 (and 2) by Jason Jones, Joe Staten, and Marty O'Donnell, they're a must watch. Lots of funny banter and trivia about the development of the game. and 12 years tomorow WoW came to fill the void in many PC gamer's hearts the PC version of halo has aged pretty good. the Xbox version on the other hand... I compared the PC to the 360 port and the PC really does look better
Too bad its dead, and a nerf gun game has replaced it...
I very much enjoyed Halo 1 and 2, I just wish all of the rest were on PC. I really like the lore and the gameplay.
I very much enjoyed Halo 1 and 2, I just wish all of the rest were on PC. I really like the lore and the gameplay.
Well, you might get H6 at least if they care enough about XBox Play Anywhere
Well, you might get H6 at least if they care enough about XBox Play Anywhere
But I still need to Halo 3 - Finish the fight!
I'm pretty sure they've said that all future Halo titles are coming to PC with Play Anywhere, so I assume that includes the eventual Halo 3 Anniversary.
I remember getting my first Xbox with Halo and a few other games. Doesn't feel like it's been 15 years already.

I miss Halo 3. A few weeks ago I had a conversation with a friend about it and I ended up looking up my character.
I'm pretty sure they've said that all future Halo titles are coming to PC with Play Anywhere, so I assume that includes the eventual Halo 3 Anniversary.
They never specifically stated Halo, and the claim was redacted anyway. However 343 (and certain employees) have made it clear that they are "just getting started", so something's coming eventually.
I played through halo 1 - 4 this year for the first time, definitely worth it
But I still need to Halo 3 - Finish the fight!
that and halo: reach on pc are the only pc ports I want of console exclusives but that's probably never happening
FYI, you can get and open the REQ packs through the Halo Waypoint website.

Too bad 343's games aren't that great. Really wish they didn't botch the Master Chief Collection.
Too bad 343's games aren't that great. Really wish they didn't botch the Master Chief Collection.
MCC being a mess is mostly Microsoft's fault for rushing it and contracting a lot of the work out to various studios with poor communication between them and 343i.
If you're playing Halo for Single Player then the Master Chief Collection is fine, I had no issues with it. MP is working fine now, but the population has died down, so it is a little late.
Too bad 343's games aren't that great. Really wish they didn't botch the Master Chief Collection.
Halo 5 MP is easily the most fun I've had in multiplayer Halo since playing Forge maps with friends in Halo 3. Halo 4 wasn't that great and both campaigns aren't either (Halo 5 campaign is fine, different beast though), but the MP is fun. 343i isn't entirely to blame for MCC being fucked
I had a lot of really fun childhood memories playing the first 3 Halos with my brothers. Forge was hella fun. I remember the day Halo 2 came out. Me and my older brother were super excited to have our mom take us to gamestop after school and pick it up. Fun times.
but that person must have been asleep when they designed the duke controller.
There is objectively nothing wrong with the duke controller. There, however, is something objectively wrong with you.
I'm pretty sure they've said that all future Halo titles are coming to PC with Play Anywhere, so I assume that includes the eventual Halo 3 Anniversary.
They already have H3 on next gen via the MCC though, why would they bother with H3A
They already have H3 on next gen via the MCC though, why would they bother with H3A
They had Halo 1 on the 360, but they still bothered to make the Anniversary edition.
MCC being a mess is mostly Microsoft's fault for rushing it and contracting a lot of the work out to various studios with poor communication between them and 343i.
You actually can blame it on 343i since their job was to work on the UI for selecting which game to play, saved games and matchmaking.
If you're playing Halo for Single Player then the Master Chief Collection is fine, I had no issues with it. MP is working fine now, but the population has died down, so it is a little late.
Yeah now single player is fine. When the MCC was released Halo CE would skip levels, Halo 3 ran at 15 fps and sometimes the game wouldn't save your progress. When I played Halo 2 Anniversary the friendly AI wouldn't work
I never said you can't blame 343i. Yeah the UI and matchmaking (at launch) was their fault. But everything else is Microsoft's fault for rushing it out too early and the contracted companies not communicating very well with 343i/Microsoft.
