Phenomenal public success contrasts with private behaviors close to madness: Howard Hughes from the late 1920s to the late 1940s, from "Hells Angels" (spending a fortune on details) through the only flight of the Hercules, a huge, money-losing transport plane. Along the way, the public Hughes sees the big picture - in movies and in aviation, building TWA and leading it through a fight with Pan Am and the US Senate. In private, phobias and compulsions threaten him with self-imposed solitary confinement. How long can his imagination, drive, and the sympathies of Katharine Hepburn, Ava Gardner, and the men who work for him stave off these internal disorders?
Directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio as airplane pioneer Howard Hughes, The Aviator is a biographical film about the aforementioned man, Howard Hughes. The film shows his successful Hollywood career as a film producer, his even more successful career as an airplane designer and aviatior, his relationships with big Hollywood stars, mostly Katharine Hepburn and Ava Gardner and his sufferings from the mental illness obsessive-compulsive disorder.
I found the film extremely entertaining. One of the best I've ever seen, with good ol' Leo in one of his finest roles and Martin Scorsese at his best (even though this film is not nearly his best).
What I found the most amusing were the numerous cameos of film stars of the time, such as Jude Law appearing as Errol Flynn and Gwen Stefani as Jean Harlow.
I give this film a solid 9/10. Definitely worth watching for all Scorsese fans and movie appreciators alike.
The film also has a great soundtrack by Howard Shore.

I only caught the last 3 hours of this movie but it was great
EDIT:
I seriously missed the beginning of the film. I started off right before the plane crashed into the turnip field
I've been trying to remember what this movie is called. I saw it back in 2004, and this is a very good movie.
I remember watching it in the cinema when it came out. It was pretty good, the most memorable scene was DiCaprio landing a plane into a turnip plantation.

I aspire to be Howard Hughes.
Crazy included.
Watched it again the other night, Love Cate Blanchet in this! You're deaf and I sweat, aren't we a fine pair of misfits!
I remember piss jars.

Don't you mean Reonaldo?
Fantastic film.
Certainly one of Scorsese's best, right up there with Goodfellas and Casino.

I like that Alec Baldwin is in this movie as Juan Trippe but he's still Jack Donaghy
Gotta check this one out, I like Scorcese's works.

Reserve some time for it though, it's 170 minutes long.
the only thing i didn't like about this film is Leo's voice , acting great , voice annoying to me atleast
I have a man crush on DiCaprio. I love this movie.
I like the part where he verbally beats up that politician.
I want ten chocolate chip cookies. Medium chips. None too close to the outside.

Golly! :v:
Did anyone else relate to the scene where Errol Flynn steals one of Howard's neatly arranged beans and he can't eat his food?

Yes. Who knew where his hand hand been and when and where he last washed his hand.
The piss jar scene was amazing because just when you think there can't possibly be anymore piss jars there's more, and then there's even MORE
So, has anybody watched "Hells Angels"?
It's called the Hercules! And it will fly goddamn it!
Can't you eat ice cream in a bowl like everybody else in the world!?
Those lines always make me laugh.
