Holy crap, the ingame view button will be awesome for tweaking stuff
Hopefully it won't need to fully rebuild just for adjusting small things like timers or object speeds
Oh god why even add the option to export a map from the editor into Hammer when it's a fucking nightmare to work with it?
Maybe for brush work?
This is insanely well executed
[editline]e[/editline]
for a simple map/for beginners
Broke my automerge :v:

Are you serious
Assuming the 'are you serious' is directed to me, of course. What person doesn't look at a user made map and go 'I want to do that', but they can't get the hand of Hammer right away. This is a PERFECT basis for learning, and eventually expanding. Especially how you can export your maps from this and fine tune them in Hammer, so you can understand how the map is 'made'.
Wow it looks really cool!
This just shows the dedication Valve put in to please their fans
No I was referring to the fact that my automerge had been broken twice in a row :v:
Ah. My mistake.
Oh god why even add the option to export a map from the editor into Hammer when it's a fucking nightmare to work with it?

That said, the maps that you could make with this thing really aren't that interesing.
There's absolutely no variety.
(You can't even have different types of lighting? The window is your ONLY option?
And no elevators at the start or ends of the maps?)
You just answered your own question, and besides, Valve is the sort of company who would add those features (If they don't already exist)
That looks nothing like I thought it would, and I mean that in a very good way.
Absolutely love how the editor is in the form of those stickfigure cartoons valve released.
Executed amazingly
Gonna have to challenge my friend to a game of portal horse. Go back and forth making maps for eachother until I cant figure out his or he cant figure out mine.

That is the greatest map idea ever
It looks really well done and cool, it just saddens me that its going to get spammed with tons of really shitty levels. It looks like a good tool for beginners to mapping, though this is incredibly simple and hardly comparable to what you can do if you know your way around hammer.
The editor looks simple and well made. I can't wait.

It'll probably be like Happy Wheels
"uLTRA hArD D3thrun m@p!!"
Straight hallway spammed with turrets and lasers

Last time I checked, didn't valve have an entire screening process for workshop submissions? Atleast for TF2 and Skyrim they do.
Although that would be an interesting idea, a map entirely based on avoiding hazards and obstacles
I love you Valve.
I'm not sure if I missed it but is there a way to make those old abandoned test chambers? Or Those Cave Johnson styled ones? If all you can do in this editor is to make these white-dark grey looking chambers then that's a bit disappointing.
Such an Editor would be nice for other source games too.
The window is your ONLY option?
At 3:18 you see a lamp next to the water in the list. Also lights can be seen at 11:55. But I'm sure those are automatically generated.
And no elevators at the start or ends of the maps?
Then again, I don't suppose this would change much for those who already map using Hammer.
If you watched the entire video you'd notice that the community map which he downloaded and tested did have an elevator in the end
With the style and simplicity they did it, making the map actually looks equally fun to playing it.
I never created any maps, so when he pulled out Hammer after that it looked like a 98's nightmare by comparison to me. :v:
I throw money at the screen but nothing happens
[editline]bleh[/editline]
Maybe if I throw hats
I hope we can use in-map portals, My dream of a endless amount of falling stairs can become a reality!
Pretty awesome, wish more games had really simple map editors like these.
This is amazing. The simplicity of this editor will speed up the process of making maps greatly.
Even if you choose to make some custom stuff in hammer you can still go ahead and create the base
structure of the map incredibly quickly.
I can't wait for this!
I fucking LOVE making maps.
(Guess it's going to be released 8 may according to wikipedia:
A free title update for the Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X version, the "Perpetual Testing Initiative", will be released on May 8, 2012, and include a new level editor and a means of sharing and obtaining new user-created levels through the Steam Workshop.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portal_2#Downloadable_content
Coo, mappers can make a basic map in this editor and details to it in Hammer.

You already can if you do it through hammer

Making Non-Euclidean geometry is fun
