• Jennifer Lawrence claims the leak was a "sex crime"
Jennifer Lawrence has broken her silence over her stolen nude photos that were leaked online this summer, telling Vanity Fair in an interview excerpt published Tuesday the hack was “not a scandal. It is a sex crime.” In the November cover story, Lawrence recalled trying to address the leak—which affected more than 100 celebrities—but “every single thing that I tried to write made me cry or get angry. I started to write an apology, but I don’t have anything to say I’m sorry for. I was in a loving, healthy, great relationship for four years. It was long distance, and either your boyfriend is going to look at porn or he’s going to look at you.”
http://time.com/3478149/jennifer-lawrence-nude-photo-hack/
Well, it was a blatant breach of their privacy for these photos to be leaked.
As long as she doesn't try and sue everybody completely unrelated to the incident (google.co.uk), her statement has some warrent. Must of been a horrible thing to happen to her. The people responsible for this should be punished though, and not the internet in general. Celebrities have a lot of influence, and I don't want to see a bunch of abusable legislation being drafted up because of this.
Well, it was a blatant breach of their privacy for these photos to be leaked.
While I think this is true, I think that there is a bit of a double standard here. I mean, I'd prefer having someone steal my photos than having a bunch of creeps stalking me 24/7, but no one really gives a fuck about paparazzis.
As much as it suck that her photos were leaked, I don't like the suggestion that websites be prosecuted for hosting the photos - surely it should be limited to those who stole them in the first place.

On the internet, it's even worse, because once something goes up on it, it multiplies infinitely and is there forever.
I find it amusing/ironic the two people saying she should only go after the leakers are using macs..
I find it amusing/ironic the two people saying she should only go after the leakers are using macs..
sorry about your condition man
Way to undervalue real sex crimes like rape, Human trafficking, child sex abuse, etc... This is a breach of privacy, yes. It is theft, yes. It is embarrassing, yes. It is not a sex crime.
I find it amusing/ironic the two people saying she should only go after the leakers are using macs..
Oh christ, one of those people again.
Oh christ, one of those people again.
Jeez. FP innit
I find it amusing/ironic the two people saying she should only go after the leakers are using macs..
yeah two people what a theory youve got going
Way to undervalue real sex crimes like rape, Human trafficking, child sex abuse, etc... This is a breach of privacy, yes. It is theft, yes. It is embarrassing, yes.
Oh christ, one of those people again.
These threads always bring out these kinds. And yeah, no shit this is a sex crime, it's practically sexual harassment except the leaker is too much of a bitch to be up front about it and goes as far as breaching a database with weak security to do it. I appreciate it that one of the people affected by the leaks isn't trying to sue someone completely unrelated.
should sites knowingly hosting child porn not be punished? it's the same kind of ordeal. perpetuating the issue etc.
Fair point - knowingly is definitely key in that though
I find it amusing/ironic the two people saying she should only go after the leakers are using macs..
Ironic because the leaks came from iCloud? Hey look I'm on an iPad now, the plot thickens
While I've never understood the point of nudes, particularly because of the risk of them being leaked, I agree it was a pretty scummy thing to do. But a sex crime? Nah.
Fair point - knowingly is definitely key in that though Ironic because the leaks came from iCloud? Hey look I'm on an iPad now, the plot thickens
Yes, no shit. And the fact Jennifer opted to try and sue Google, but left Apple completely alone due to the unquestionable stance Apple has against her and other users. You have to be mentally ill to not realise that this is very much their fault for complete lack of proper security measures. It's literally laughable. You're the only person who seems to have understood the statement, but it's a true shame. Jennifer is an idiot.
should sites knowingly hosting child porn not be punished? it's the same kind of ordeal. perpetuating the issue etc.
Yes, but I'm sure there's child pornography on imgur, there has to be. That doesn't mean they should be prosecuted because one user uploaded a photo that they didn't know about. As for sites like TMZ and Perez Hilton, sure, sue them to hell I don't care. I guess knowingly is the keyword here.

Is getting punched in the back of the head not a violent crime because murder is a violent crime?
Does the category "sex crime" come with an inherit statement of severity? Any criminal activity involved in the leaking of the pictures didn't involve sex. How do you justify calling it a "sex crime"?
man i wonder if it ever occured to her that taking nude pictures of herself wasnt a good idea. and what of the poor women in the world who have to deal with their ex's posting pictures of them online?

Her dumbass legal counsel opting to sue the completely wrong corporation isn't her fault.
While I mean on one hand it does really suck that people cannot even share intimate photos of themselves together in privacy. On the other hand, well.. It just sucks. I wouldn't want the pics I've taken anywhere on the net.

"She should have realised wearing that outfit would get her raped"
I agree, it definitely was a sex crime. I've been constantly abusing myself sexually ever since those photos came out.
I feel this is unfortunately overshadowing a bigger issue on hand to do with the way everyone's privacy is being invaded on the internet.
Jacking off to pictures isn't a crime. Any criminal activity involved in the leaking of the pictures didn't involve sex. How do you justify calling it a "sex crime"?
being a crime explicitly sexual in nature??? You are right that it's not officially a "sex crime" in the American legal system but it's rapidly becoming one elsewhere and probably soon will here. This is a relatively new thing. Besides, you are taking the quote out of context. “not a scandal. It is a sex crime.” She's arguing against the "scandal" label which is putting the focus on her and not the blatantly criminal activity.
I agree, it definitely was a sex crime. I've been constantly abusing myself sexually ever since those photos came out.
"haha hey guys I masturbate to a woman's private nude pictures, aren't I so funny and cool????"
