In an interview with Dutch site Inside Gamer, Guillemot explained how, for once, it’s the consoles that are on the receiving end of the port process. I’d joke about PS4 owners being forced to deal with incomprehensible QTEs asking them to press LMB, but I’m not bitter.
In fact, if you read the full (google translated) quote, it actually seems like he's saying Ubisoft in general is now developing for PC and porting to consoles: http://www.insidegamer.nl/artikel/103431/ubisoft-baas-yves-guillemot-over-de-ps4-interview
If you look at the specifications of the PS4 look, you see that it looks pretty on a PC. Is porting games to PC and vice versa PS4 and therefore easier? Yves: We have, in my opinion, but a game that had really had problems with a port and that's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. The PC project could be better managed. But with the other brands there is a lot of time and effort in which all platforms have the perfect game. We also expect fewer problems with porting games to the PS4 than the PS3, which had a completely different infrastructure. It is now easier. Previously, we developed first games on the Xbox 360 and which were then translated into the PS3. It took a lot of time and money to make that port. Now we develop from the PC and which versions are translated into a console like the PlayStation 4.
Oh yes hahaha the tide is finally turning fuck you consoles, Soon you'll have "Press Mouse_1" on YOUR screen muahahah
I've heard it somewhere before. I think DICE have said it.
Wasn't this the same thing DICE said about BF3? Wasn't this the same thing id said about RAGE? I guess I have trouble trusting developers when they say stuff like this nowadays
Whether this is true or not, I'm buying it.

Ubisoft finally did something right.
Ubisoft finally did something right.
Actually, besides the retarded DRM (which they have scrapped), ubisoft is a pretty decent company in all aspects.
I fucking love you Ubisoft!
Well lets not get ahead of ourselves here...
Wasn't this the same thing DICE said about BF3? Wasn't this the same thing id said about RAGE? I guess I have trouble trusting developers when they say stuff like this nowadays
Considering that the PS4 is much closer to a PC than it's predecessor, it makes sense to treat the PC as the "devkit" for it. There should be enough horsepower in the PS4 to let this be the case until the PS4 is on it's last legs and developers are squeezing every last bit of power out of it's hardware. If the next Xbox doesn't have a similar architecture I can see it hurting the experience.
If there's any major game company I'd trust with this kind of statement, it's Ubisoft. They're not a great company, but they've been especially good to PC gaming as of late. Uplay is still pretty annoying, since they still refuse to totally scrap it, but it's still better than it was before, and the games themselves have been pretty well-optimized (Far Cry 3 probably being the best example so far).
Actually, besides the retarded DRM (which they have scrapped), ubisoft is a pretty decent company in all aspects.
Yeah, Far Cry 3 ran and looked great for me
Actually, besides the retarded DRM (which they have scrapped), ubisoft is a pretty decent company in all aspects.
this, i really don't get the hate behind ubisoft besides bad DRM, they've made tons of really good games
They haven't done a single thing that could be considered bad in quite a while, instead improving upon each and every part of their business practices. They're doing good, I applaud them.
Oh yes hahaha the tide is finally turning fuck you consoles, Soon you'll have "Press Mouse_1" on YOUR screen muahahah
Just wait for Bethesda to go "Consoles are better still" or something
Wasn't this the same thing DICE said about BF3? Wasn't this the same thing id said about RAGE? I guess I have trouble trusting developers when they say stuff like this nowadays
It's not so much the dev's decision as it is the publisher's.
The PS4 is basically a PC though, which is actually great for both console AND PC gamers. This could be a really good generation for both sides.
PRESS THE GLORIOUS MOUSE ONE OF PATRIARCHY YOU FUCKING PLEBEIAN CONSOLE PEASANTS.
Everybody keeps saying this and it's never true
PRESS THE GLORIOUS MOUSE ONE OF PATRIARCHY YOU FUCKING PLEBEIAN CONSOLE PEASANTS.
"Press Enter." -confused look from dirty console subhuman- "Oh, Ohh I'm sorry I forgot your 2 joysticks and 12 buttons doesn't have an Enter key. Hang on while I look into the key configs to see if I can find a suitable replacement... There, try hitting 'Start'"
yes, ubisoft. thank you for a decade of piss poor PC games, I'll be pirating this to see exactly how much of a lie this is. remember, this is coming from the same people who said ''assassin's creed 3 is optimized on PC''.
The PS4 is basically a PC though, which is actually great for both console AND PC gamers. This could be a really good generation for both sides.
except PC games are run on DirectX, while PS games have to be developed for OpenGL which usually brings problems.
except PC games are run on DirectX, while PS games have to be developed for OpenGL which usually brings problems.
which is exciting because opengl is a much better system than directx and this might just be an excuse for the tide to shift over to opengl
except PC games are run on DirectX, while PS games have to be developed for OpenGL which usually brings problems.
Not only. [editline]27th February 2013[/editline] I suggest we just stop using directx altogether
Wasn't there something about OpenGL being very underrated, something that the guy from Wolfire said.
Wasn't there something about OpenGL being very underrated, something that the guy from Wolfire said.
The fact it doesn't have a marketing team means people end up looking at outdated information which leaves them with the wrong impression. [editline]27th February 2013[/editline]
except PC games are run on DirectX, while PS games have to be developed for OpenGL which usually brings problems.
PC games are by no means Direct3D exclusive, and PS games don't use OpenGL.
I'm not surprised. The first time they showed the game was on a PC and even the "PS4 demo" was running on a PC :v: Anything else would have surprised me a lot. If that's their plan for all or at least many of their new games that's awesome news though.

[editline]27th February 2013[/editline] PC games are by no means Direct3D exclusive, and PS games don't use OpenGL.
I wouldn't be surprised if the PS4 used OpenGL or something close. It's a fairly modern desktop GPU pretty much, and OpenGL 4.3 core profile doesn't have much excess. I don't see really any reason why they would need anything more, though they could end up with a lower level API, it seems less likely this time round since OpenGL is more...usable.
Just a few threads back, any post about Ubisoft would look like "UBI REALLY IS THE WORST" suddenly "they never really did anything wrong, I always really loved their games and when you think about it they really are one of the few publishers still releasing quality games~" what a paragon of double-standards this thread is don't forget:
Everybody keeps saying this and it's never true
