• PC Crashes to black screen when gaming, fans on full

Hi Guys, I was wondering if anybody could please assist me with this problem, it's been happening a while now and I just want to get back to gaming, I'd really appreciate any help. My specs are as follows: CPU: i3-3220 GFX: EVGA GTX 670 FTW Ed 4GB Motherboard: Asrock Q77 PSU: Corsair 430w RAM: Crucial 8GB When I play a game (recently Elite:Dangerous and Rocket League with high settings) my PC will crash to a black screen (monitor says no display input) and the fans will go at full speed. The sound continues to play, but I need to do a full manual reset in order to get the computer working again. However, in Rocket League this issue doesn't persist when I lower the settings. My GPU rarely runs over 90C (maximum operating temperature is 93C for this card) and CPU temperatures are fine. So far I've tried the following: Reinstalling Windows Reinstalling Drivers New motherboard (Fixed other issues but not this one) Taking side panel off PC Removing dust with compressed air from all components + full case clean If anybody can help I'd be extremely grateful. I don't really have any idea where to go from here and I don't want to waste money replacing a component and continue having this issue. Thanks!
Sounds like your GPU is getting too hot. I'd recommend reapplying the thermal paste and giving the heatsink a thorough clean. You have this blower style card right? [url]https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-DisplayPort-Graphics-04G-P4-3673-KR/dp/B00966IRL8[/url] It's the same as my old GTX670, dust will get stuck in the heatsink and it's almost impossible to get rid of it just with compressed air dusters. The only proper way to clean it is by taking off the casing. You should be able to take off the casing without too much trouble, but if you do have to reapply the thermal past as well since the heatsink is attached to the case. I'll see what I can do though, thanks for the advice - the card you linked is my exact one.
Your card draws more power and has a higher base clock than mine, and it would hit 85-90 degrees after 4 years, so I'm not surprised to see that yours actually shuts down to prevent further damage.
Managed to get some of the screws off, do you have a tutorial for removing a GTX 670 backplate specifically please? [editline]16th July 2016[/editline] Found one, will report back! [editline]16th July 2016[/editline] Thanks so much man, I've managed to fix the issue by taking the card apart, clearing out the thick plaque of dust from the heatsink with compressed air, and re-applied thermal paste. Without using a custom fan configuration, I've managed to bring tempertures to under 70C (From above 90C) and with the software I've managed to bring this down to under 55C (Agian, usually over 90C) with the absolute highest settings. No crashes after about 30 minutes of play (usually takes <5 to crash). Absolutely love you man, you have no idea how much this means to me. Not able to afford a graphics card until after summer, so this means I can actually play games again. I don't really have much money to pay you, but I've got 3 copies of Dino D-Day in my Steam inventory (who doesn't?) - it isn't much at all but send me a PM if you'd like one. Thanks!
