Kiev accused Moscow of seeking to trigger a “third world war” as military tensions soared in east Ukraine and US President Barack Obama led a diplomatic charge against Russia. A rocket-propelled grenade blew up a Ukrainian military helicopter sitting on the tarmac at a base near the eastern town of Kramatorsk, officials in Kiev said. The pilot escaped but was wounded. Smoke spewed in the sky over the nearby rebel-held town. The brazen attack by the insurgents came amid an army offensive to dislodge pro-Kremlin gunmen who are holding a string of eastern towns. Kiev announced on Friday that its forces were seeking to “blockade” rebels inside another flashpoint town, Slavyansk, to prevent militant reinforcements arriving. On Thursday, Ukrainian armoured vehicles and commandos had made a brief but dramatic incursion into Slavyansk, killing one 22-year-old insurgent. Russia responded by ordering its troops massed on Ukraine’s border to launch a new military exercise. The developments prompted German Chancellor Angela Merkel to call Russian President Vladimir Putin to voice “great concern” over the situation and to urge implementation of a Geneva accord signed a week ago that was meant to defuse tensions. Merkel’s spokesman Steffen Seibert also warned of fresh sanctions against Russia, telling reporters in Berlin: “Sanctions are already in place ... you have to face the facts — in case nothing changes — it is important to be prepared for more.” Ramping up the Cold War-style rhetoric, Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk accused Russia of trying to spark a global conflict. “The world hasn’t forgotten the Second World War and Russia wants to start a third world war,” he said.
http://www.news.com.au/world/europe/...-1226896436027 (User was banned for this post ("Needlessly sensationalist title, huge image for no reason, you've posted enough news threads for the week" - Megafan))
Do it, Russia.
Id be shocked if an actually World War started, Its just so nuts to think about a GLOBAL war happening in the way WWI and WWII was described. Everyone is just so powerful and populated. Itd make the last 10 years of fighting look silly.
you assholes rated me dumb and laughed, but it's there, in front of you now. I told you this could only end one way
I don't think Putin wants a war - he just wants the return of the Union. Problem is that many ex-Soviet countries don't want to return to the Union.
And he doesn't really seem to care what the post-Soviet states think of this idea.
And he doesn't really seem to care what the post-Soviet states think of this idea.
Putin knows we won't do anything but show off our military, put sanctions, and MINOR actions toward things like this, he has the power, influence, and ability to do it, why wouldn't he?
“The world hasn’t forgotten the Second World War and Russia wants to start a third world war,” he said.
Putin might be power-hungry and might desire the return of the old Union, but he is more than intelligent enough to understand what WWIII would mean. Nobody, save perhaps for the most zealous and/or dangerously insane, wants another World War, especially with MAD continually hanging over their heads.
you assholes rated me dumb and laughed, but it's there, in front of you now. I told you this could only end one way
I'm still rating you dumb. Because you are.
Well, defense manufacturers will be happy.
he basically wants a new soviet union, without the communism, also he likely sees that as necessary to stop the NATO push eastward.
And he doesn't really seem to care what the post-Soviet states think of this idea.
Oh he does. If he didn't than Belarus, Armenia and Kazakhstan wouldn't be as friendly with Russia as they are.
he basically wants a new soviet union, without the communism, also he likely sees that as necessary to stop the NATO push eastward.
So a return of the Tsars?
Albert Pikes letter. Red moon.
well wasn't the Soviet Union in better condition, relatively, before it collapsed? I think maybe it would be worth bringing it back together...It'd be cool if the USA just took it over and made it more USA, that'd be cool I think.
I see that Sensationalist Headlines is living up to it's name.
This is NewsCorp.. I expect nothing more than speculation and sensationalism with their news reporting.
Well, defense manufacturers will be happy.
I'm sure they're all getting a hard-on each time they hear anything about one country threatening another.
So a return of the Tsars?
pretty much... until you know, the next inevitable revolution. :v: , i think russia is, much like brazil doomed to be a country "full of potential" without ever achieving its potential, at least not in this century.
Why are all the tanks on liberty island? Is that what Russia wants? Just the island?
Why are all the tanks on liberty island? Is that what Russia wants? Just the island?
reminds me of the mission in world in conflict in which you had to save the statue of liberty. :eng101:

World in Conflict best game ever
Can we just call it world war 4 instead It rolls off the tongue better
Can we just call it world war 4 instead It rolls off the tongue better
lets call it world war 4 just to fuck with future generations "when was world war 3"
I agree that world war 3 should be just skipped in favor of world war 4, ww3 has built up such a pop culture presence that it would just disappoint instead of tens of thousands of soviet tanks covered in the blood of unborn children pouring through the fulda gap against brave american knights in their armored steeds blessed with holy water brother set against misled brother as germans fight germans, and it all ends in a massive nuclear inferno that kills every living cell on this planet, started by france because they couldn't handle one soviet conscript poking his toe over their border nowadays it would be the last four operational russian tanks against the three mexicans and the polish guy stationed in europe, and even a nuclear exchange would be limited and wouldn't be targeted against civilian targets imagine reading the papers and learning that that world war 3 was fought overnight, the nukes flew, and you can still get your hot morning coffee. massive disappointment. I think the suicides in the military establishment would outweigh any losses from the actual fighting
And he doesn't really seem to care what the post-Soviet states think of this idea.
Stalin didn't care what the pre-Soviet states thought either, so no big change...
Remember when Einstein said that he didn´t know which weapons will be used in WW3, but in WW4 we will use sticks and stones. Another reason to skip WW3. :v:

I can't remember. But we will be fighting as sacks of skin then.
