For an uniformed american, is there actually anything special about fish & chips? Like are the fries made any differently than normal french fries besides vinegar instead of ketchup?

never tried vinegar on chips or french fries but that actually sounds pretty darn good
never tried vinegar on chips or french fries but that actually sounds pretty darn good
Little bit of it adds to the flavor, I don't understand people who drench their shit with it though. There's a bar near me that serves English and Pakistani food, their fish and chips are really fuckin' good. Dump some vinegar on those bitches and it's great.
Is there anything Tom Scott doesn't know?
steak fries are p much chips
No, those are potato wedges. :v:
steak fries are p much chips
Blasphemy, steak fries are sometimes not completely goo.
Chips are not fries.
we have a type of fry that gets pretty close to chips, though I can't recall it. just a bit smaller than a steak fry but is bigger than the traditional mcdonalds fry and usually softer depending on how you cook it. depends what brand you get too. honestly, I consider chips to be a type of fry, or fries to be a type of chip depending on how you wanna look at it.
Is there anything Tom Scott doesn't know?
Does he know why kids love the taste of Cinnamon Toast Crunch™?
Chips have to be mushy to be proper chips. The chippie across the road from me serves them so soft you can blow up one end by squeezing a bit hard. MERGE
I don't know if this is the same for anyone else but I've found that there is not a single other establishment that can accurately replicate chips from a chippy. You can get fish and chips in a restaurant or a pub and the chips do not taste the same and I don't know why. I want chips now.
I could ask any american the same question about chocolate and peanut butter, its just what people are raised to enjoy in said country i guess theyre far thicker. apart from texture/taste it also means theres more potato for the amount of oil that soaks into each chip theoretically making them somewhat healthier per portion [editline]25th July 2016[/editline] those mid-size fries are sold in every fast food place here that ISNT mcdonalds or fast food and if you go to the freezer section they're called "straight cut" fries as opposed to the mcdonalds sized ones which are usually labelled shoestring fries [editline]25th July 2016[/editline] OHHH this is the guy from computerphile. i wish they got more people from brady haran's channels in trivial videos like this, like the professor from periodic videos and james from numberphile
Don't get me wrong, I'm not judging fish & chips. In fact it sounds pretty fucking good, just was always confused about how its made.
I'm someone who often gets asked if I want chips with my vinegar I may also be too northern for anyone to understand this
Chips are like american fries Only ...not shit
Not even watching the video, I'm guessing he talks about sodium acetate?
why dont you watch the video and find out its 2 minutes long
Because I was on mobile.
never tried vinegar on chips or french fries but that actually sounds pretty darn good
Balsamic vinegar best vinegar goddamn I gotta buy some more
No, those are potato wedges. :v:
I'd like to think potato wedges are literally cut up potato and steak fries are mashed up homogenized potato like most french fries so chips really are just steak fries of course there's no real definition so it depends on where you go but like red robbin looks like the "chips" he has, just a tad longer and not as soggy.
Then you could have said "i cant watch the video because im on mobile" "not even watching" is literally saying youre not going to bother to watch it before any reasoning
I was also hoping to guess it. They use the thing I mentioned on salt and vingear chips.
British chips look like Potato Wedges or Potato Strips depending on how the shop makes them. I do have one question do shops try to remove the starch in their chips
