I tried installing my new P67, 8GB DDR3 RAM and i5 2500k. After wiring everything up and plugging the computer in I discovered that it wouldn't boot. The motherboard light is on when I switch on the power supply but the fans or any other component wont start. I checked the pin connection between the power button and the mobo and they appear to be fine. I tried switching the pins for the power and reset button but that didnt work either. I can't find the power switch on the mobo. I tried shorting the connection between the 2 pins and that resulted in a single beep when I managed to successfully short the connection. That's all I can give as info so I hope it's enough
check to see if your GPU is properly connected in the pci slot/cables
also sounds like a CPU issue, check for bent pins/etc

The gpu is in properly and i cant honestly tell if the pins are bent. Could a mod please close this thread ive decided just to get a technician to look at it.
Wait, if it beeps a single time when you short the pins, the components are most probably OK. If the fans don't spin up, are you sure you've got the CPU fan connector in and the adequate power to the graphics card. If it beeps, you can be pretty sure that the CPU isn't dead. If you link up the graphics card output (or motherboard output) to a monitor, does anything appear?

I'll try this then. So you think its just a connection problem?

Post a picture. What motherboard do you have anyways? Most of the boards I've seen on LGA1155 have a onboard power switch.
I'll try this then. So you think its just a connection problem?
Ok ive got it to the point where the components will run but the red dram light remains solid red. Tried using rhe mem ok button but nothing. There is no POST btw.
If it doesn't post, it's probably a bricked mobo.
You can try a few things still, like check what your components' power draw would be and make sure your PSU has enough oomph to support that. Pay most of your attention to the Watts and Amperage on the 12V rail. I would also borrow/buy a multimeter if you don't have one and make sure all the voltages on the PSU are fine and dandy.
To do this unplug it from all your components, and use a paperclip to bridge a connection between one of the black ground wires, and the green wire to turn it on. then just stick the negative thing from your multimeter in one of the ground wires and the red one in whichever wire you are going to test.
Yellow is 12V, Red is 5V and Orange is 3.3v. Your measurements can be up to 5% more or less than 12/5/3.3, any larger margin is a red flag.
I got it working in the end, apparently my RAM wasn't sitting right along with another couple of small things. Up and running now on my new system. Thanks for helping everyone!
