• Building a PC for the family under 400 dollars in total please

So as the title states I'm looking to build a PC for the family. I'm in Canada, Alberta and what I need is something under 400 dollars with the OS included. I don't think this build will require a graphics card, but if somebody can get a build out with cheap 60 dollar card then I'd be fine with it. Right now I'm just looking for something that can last and is reliable.I need something that has a small-mid sized HDD 250-500 Gigs, something that runs nicely and is able to play flash games and preferably run the bare minimum for 3D games. I'd really prefer something that's cheaper than 300 dollars in total but as long as it's under 400 it'd be fine with me. Edit: Fixed some bad wording.
The OS and the need for a HDD is going to fuck everything up. You might want to install some free Linux Distro on it.
Only thing I can find is pre builts and if you don't plan on doing any hard core gaming this should be fine for basic family use. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883103383 Its got an APU which means intergrated graphics in the CPU and you could put everything in a diff case one day and add a GPU, Its got 4 gb ram and a 500 GB HDD and Windows 7. It really is the best I could do since OS's are about $100 or more and a 500gb hard drive will cost about $120 which only leaves like $180 for a build that just almost isn't possible. I'm sure someone can do it but I simply cannot.
I would wait until hard drive prices drop before you do this if you want to keep within a $400 budget.

[editline]16th November 2011[/editline] Quick question, What is in your current PC? Anything you can reuse such as case, PSU maybe the hard drive?

I have an HP pavilion that I can scrap for a 9800 but I'm not sure if the mobo is good.

HP with a 1155 socket motherboard that he can scrap for a 9800? I don't think so. Run speccy and check what socket. At that of a limited budget, if you want something that will run games decently, then you will have to sacrifice a good amount of future proofing. Re-using as much as possible is a must. An am2+/am3/1155/1156 that has a pci-e slot will be just fine, as an i3 540/phenom 955 that bad, and at your budget you don't have much of an option.

I've invested far too much time in that machine.
Then enjoy your prebuilt computer. You won't be getting anything decent at that budget if to buy parts separately with a harddrive and OS included. Better find something that has a nice discount.
