The yet unnamed standard described by the trio makes use of a PCI Express interface (just a reminder, CompactFlash is still at PATA), is supposed to deliver transfer speeds of up to 500 MB/s, and will reach and surpass 2TB in terms of capacity. These specs make the new cards suitable for continuous burst shooting of massive RAW images, as well as for HD video applications. The proposed card would have a size similar to that of CompactFlash solutions but there's no word yet on backwards compatibility. [/release]

We can only hope this is actually completed, and it becomes standard. I don't want to buy some compact flash card that'll cost me obscene price.
