there isn't a lot so here's almost all of the article
Square Enix and Eidos Montreal have announced they’re canceling the “Augment Your Pre-Order” program for the upcoming Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.
Instead of having fans vote on what content will be made available, they’re making all of the incentivized content available to all who pre-order or get the day one edition of the game. This is the result of many fans expressing their dissatisfaction with the way content was being shoehorned into a pre-order voting system.
Time to do the safety dance.
Fucking good. That was pretty atrocious.
Thank fuck. But now I hope my money comes in before the game gets released.
edit: wait, five months? Phew, I'm safe.
Wow, Ubisoft actually changed something before it was too late instead of just doing it anyway and apologizing six months later like they did with AC2's always-on DRM scheme and basically everything else.
Ubisoft Marketing must be awful to work for when you're not one of the decision-makers. They've gotta be looking at this and be like "the public's gonna hate this".

This is Square, not Ubisoft...
Thank fuck. Still think the extra missions should've been included into the base game, but whatever.

Square or Eidos, not sure which is doing the pull here.

They said all the content will go into pre-order and day 1 versions of the game. It's not as good as it could be, but at least you can wait for reviews before buying it and still get all the content.

Yeah, I suppose there's a silver lining in this.
This is Square, not Ubisoft...
i dont think that makes his point any less correct though lol

or wait for the GOTY and steam sale of %50
Fuckin a. I already preordered, hoping to get the ultimate rewards.
you did how much did it cost you,.?
The idea was terribly flawed, whoever came up with it did not think this through. They must reach the final goal no-matter what, even if sales are too low, it has to happen. If they do not meet the final goal, they're showing first hand that interest was low and their incentive system is a failure. But the requirement to meet the final goal in order for the system to be successful, makes it a failure anyway.
But who knows, maybe they realised that and that's why it got canned.
Will the game still release 4 WHOLE DAYS early?

Knowing Square, the end stretch goal was probably something like 4 million copies anyway :v:
Will the game still release 4 WHOLE DAYS early?
Nope, and in fact because of this whole fiasco, we know the actual release date for the game now.
I wouldn't be surprised if there are some people out there who are complaining about this decision because they could've had the game 4 DAYS EARLIER.
But in the end, everyone who pre-orders the game wins because they get everything now instead of having to choose from different tiers. Of course, if you don't pre-order, you don't get anything special, but you can't expect AAA game publishers to fold over pre-order culture entirely.
just wait for GOTY and you will get everything in the pre- order and cheaper
While I hate this, why did the controversy come now? This exact same thing has been done on Steam in the past without a peep.
it was the thing that broke the camel back,.?

honestly think its due to people still having beef over the "mechanical arpartheid" trademark because they think its racist and want to get back at them somehow
everyone else joined in because they had to put their opinion in

Oh, shut up.
I didn't give a shit about the mechanical apartheid """controversy""" but this augment your pre-order shit was... well... shit. And yeah, it's been done before. Wasn't a fan of it then. The reason people didn't care then and why there are so many more people complaining now is for two reasons.
They either:
Didn't know about it, and did this time because Deus Ex is a much more significant game than the ones its been done with in the past AND/OR are bothered that this is locking content for the game you are buying behind a pre-order paywall compared to other incentives this has been done with in the past, which were other games or shitty items in TF2 as opposed to items in the game itself. Additionally, you had to pick your pre-order bonus, and the content you didn't pick was locked away from you. Fuck that. The whole thing was fucking flawed.
BUT NOOOOO we're ALL just butthurt over that stupid tagline. You got us.
While I hate this, why did the controversy come now? This exact same thing has been done on Steam in the past without a peep.
While I think pre-order campaigns are shit there is a difference between
"X number of pre-orders and everyone gets A, Y number and every one gets B, Z number and everyone gets C"
"X number of pre orders and you can choose A/B/C, Y number and you choose D/E/F, Z number and you choose G/H/I"
Most games that do it on steam also do it quietly, this was announced proudly.
this whole thing basically encouraged preorderers to sing the praises of the game and encourage everyone else to burn their money so they can unlock the next piece of sold off content
So like portal 2's Potato ARG where players were told to buy more games ontop of their portal 2 pre-order to unlock it earlier and unlock potato-oriented DLC.

Yes, I remember Valve sectioning off entire chunks of Portal 2 to people who didn't preorder.

A extra mission and some fancy clothes isn't "sectioning off entire parts of game content"
Deus EX HR had it even worse, it had retailer exclusive DLC out the ass which ment you had to pre-order it multiple times to get everything.

Did anyone complain as bad as this system?
Just because people are opposing this one Augment your Pre-Order thing doesn't mean they're OK with all the other ones. People like TB and Jim Sterling have been complaining for a long time about pre-order stuff, and it's only now that the common person is agreeing that pre-order shenanigans like these are getting out of hand.
releasing your aaa game 2 days earlier while other platforms get to miss out is hardly fair
Yep. And waiting an entire month for the PC port of Dark Souls 2 wasn't fun either.
This is Square, not Ubisoft...
Hurr, I'm dumb ignore me
This was actually worse than any preorder incentives I've seen out of Ubisoft lately, at any rate.
