PRESS RELEASE
Tue 7 Dec 15.55 GMT
Julian Assange Defense Fund frozen.
The Swiss Bank Post Finance today issues a press release stating that it had frozen Julian Assange's defense fund and personal assets (31K EUR) after reviewing him as a "high profile" individual.
The technicality used to seize the defense fund was that Mr. Assange, as a homeless refugee attempting to gain residency in Switzerland, had used his lawyers address in Geneva for the bank's correspondence.
Late last week, the internet payment giant PayPal, froze 60Keur of donations to the German charity the Wau Holland Foundation, which were targeted to promote the sharing of knowledge via WikiLeaks.
WikiLeaks and Julian have lost 100Keur in assets this week.
One of the most fascinating aspects of the Cablegate exposure is how it is throwing into relief the power dynamics between supposedly independent states like Switzerland, Sweden and Australia.
WikiLeaks also has public bank accounts in Iceland (preferred) and Germany.
Please help cover our expenditures while we fight to get our assets back.

Apparently twitter is censoring discussion of wikileaks too: http://bubbloy.wordpress.com/2010/12/05/twitter-is-censoring-the-discussion-of-wikileaks/
What.
I thought Switzerland was like a refuge for shady bank accounts.
People say that cablegate hasn't done anything and that assange hyped it up, but when you have news that america is trying to take down everything wikileaks related, you have to wonder.

I keep reading the title as "Wikileaks founder found frozen" and I thought Assange had been murdered.
Apparently there was a technicality and he entered the wrong address into the application.
Jesus, Wikileaks is being raped. Damn USA.

USA has nothing to do with it...

Yeah dude, like, totally not :v:
USA has nothing to do with it...
I wonder, does anyone actually believe either way that the US has had some involvement or has not in the whole warrant / money freezing etc?
It was all Canada!
I wonder, does anyone actually believe either way that the US has had some involvement or has not in the whole warrant / money freezing etc?
From what it seems, anything bad that happens to wikileaks is apparently the US' fault, even if Assange filled out a form incorrectly.
The U.S. has no power over Swiss bank accounts. Why would you suggest they had something to do with it? Because there's motive? There's just as much motive for Russia, China, England...
We're so raw we called for his assassination! How couldn't we be behind it all!?
I wonder, does anyone actually believe either way that the US has had some involvement or has not in the whole warrant / money freezing etc?
You mean whether or not the US had anything to do with attacking what is probably the single safest account that wikileaks had?
If the US was going after financials, the account in Germany would have likely been the first to go. Both because Germany is a close ally and because Swiss banks have huge secrecy laws protecting them from just such attacks.

No. I know the Swiss laws and the correctness everybody expects from the Swiss banks. It's nothing special really, he should have filled that document correctly. Besides, the Post isn't a bank.
He could have gone with a numbered bank account, would have saved him from all this trouble.

The US probably had nothing to do with this directly.
But since the whole cablegate thing mostly attacks the States, it's sort of caused by the nation in question.
