I've recently noticed that the games that my brother plays on his laptop run at 60 FPS and look all smooth-like.
This kind of made me inspect my own laptop, and the fact that I don't recall everything running so smoothly.
Therefore I booted up Fraps and launched Hearthstone, which my brothers feebler laptop was able to run at around 60 or at LEAST above 40, and checked the frame rate.
It got up to 30 and got stuck.
Same with Dxtory(another vidcapture software)
I've tried googling it and tried the suggested fixes.
So far I've:
Checked the game options for V-sync. (Hearthstone doesn't even allow to change it or doesn't even have it)
Set the nVidia control panel settings for V-sync to ALWAYS be off (Just in case)
Reset my nVidia CP settings to defaults.
When that didn't work I updated the drivers themselves.
And still nothing.
The last step I reckon would be reinstalling the OS and starting over, but it's a pain in the ass and I'd rather fix it without doing that.
My specs:
GeForce 750 M Vidya card
Intel i7-4700HQ 2.4 Ghz
8 GB DDR3 RAM
And yes, my monitor refresh rate is 60 Hz
Also, since I'm complaining, it always felt that this PC is underperforming somehow and never really got to more than just a feeling. With the 750 Geforce and i7 processor I expected a bit more. I always blamed the weird thing it does with using Intel graphics for Desktop and supposedly GeForce graphics for games.
If it never goes above 30FPS then something must be limiting it. Weird driver problem maybe? Try closing all your background programs etc, make sure it's not in power save mode also.
No apparent background programs that could do this.
It's in regular high performance mode.
I CAN WATCH 60 FPS VIDEOS ONLINE JUST FINE, it's just the games that screw up.
P.S. Why the hell do my computer inputs freeze (USB keyboard and USB mouse) when the fridge shuts itself off after a turn of cooling? They're connected to the same extension cord.
Reminds me of a shitty wifi I had, wouldn't work unless you open the window.
check your programs list, maybe even post it, and task manager
do a clean reinstall of the nvidia drivers, as well as CPU drivers if you can manage

Just put it to balanced, high performance wastes energy. As for the problem you're having, are you sure you're running the games on the GPU?

I mean the monitoring programs like Afterburner (which is off during this whole time) used to show that the GPU is being used when games were on.
I just tried Killing floor though and it reached up to 80 FPS on low graphics. Left 4 Dead 2 got a higher than 60 too.
Maybe it's just Hearthstone then? I mean I didn't really check bro's computer actual numbers, just you know, visually I overlooked them games and figured they look a lot smoother.
Well now I just feel silly.
If you have nvidia optimus add -force_vendor_id 0x10DE -force_device_id 0x1180 to the launch options

I would try to change this, it could be causing a minor power surge or some sort of power flux that can cause damage to your hardware.
Heck, it might even solve your problem somehow!
Is power saving mode in the game disabled?
I know Portal 2 for example which caps the framerate at 30 when laptop power saving mode is enabled.
