• Pope: History will judge climate change deniers
Pope Francis has said that "history will judge" those who refuse to accept the science of climate change. “If someone is doubtful that [climate change] is true, they should ask scientists," he told reporters aboard the papal plane. "These are not opinions made on the fly. They are very clear. Then each person can decide and history will judge the decisions." The Pope is a strong supporter of the Paris climate agreement, a pledge by almost 200 countries to reduce emissions linked to climate change. Donald Trump pulled the US out of the agreement in June.
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/pope-francis-donald-trump-climate-change-denier-dreamers-daca-us-immigration-catholic-colombia-a7940851.html
Even the fucking pope knows the world is at stake
when the pope is more progressive than your president, I think thats a sign something has gone very wrong
The Vatican actually is pretty reasonable about scientific discoveries and has its own research groups. It's suppressing compared to some of the stereotypical religious regressive-ness you kind of are used to.
Bannon has already made it clear that he and by extension Trump have no respect for the Catholic Church.
when the pope is more progressive than your president, I think thats a sign something has gone very wrong
Watch Trump denounce the pope, calling him a fake man of faith. That would be brilliant. A new height of wrong.
All these climate deniers in political positions(including the execs and lobbyists that bribes them) needs be all locked up for many years and have all their assets taken from them to fund a way to reverse damage they have done. You can call me over-dramatic all you want but wait until Florida is underwater and your grandkids need to wear an mask when they want to play outside.
when the pope is more progressive than your president, I think thats a sign something has gone very wrong
Francis is actually the first Jesuit pope. The Jesuits are essentially an order of teachers, researchers, and scientists within the Church. Jesuits are typically extremely-well educated men so it does not come as a shock to me at all that Francis supports the science behind climate change.
I wonder how the sect/cult like churches all over the US will react to this.
I wonder how the sect/cult like churches all over the US will react to this.
I'm sure most of them don't give a damn what the Pope has to say, like I feel like I remember them pretty much ignoring whatever the Pope has to say on everything.
I wonder how the sect/cult like churches all over the US will react to this.
Don't the evangelists despise the pope and look on him as "that pretender in Rome"?
I wonder how the sect/cult like churches all over the US will react to this.
A good portion of christian churches in the US are baptist or protestant, so outside of the catholic churches they won't likely give a shit what the pope says.
From the people I've talked to in middle America who are deeply religious, they might not really mind the pope as a person, but they don't really like the Catholic church and definitely won't listen to him.
they used to call their one telescope the LUCIFER until some scientist insisted that the LBT was easier to remember
Lucifer was the angel of light and wasnt anything like pop culture discribes him. He wasnt even "evil" he just rebelled agaonst God.
Lucifer was the angel of light and wasnt anything like pop culture discribes him.
well he IS considered to be Satan in later books of the bible, so technically evil, although one might argue that he gives us free will, whereas adam and eve had no freedom before being tempted by him
Isn't that open to interpretation? Was it even Lucifer being named as Satan? Some interpretations think that Satan was a servant of God, meant to test followers. As far as I know.
There's basically no TL,DR for the Church's history up to 1300/1400-ish. It's way more complicated than trying to explain the 7 seasons of GoT in one post. From 1400 onwards it's quite easy to explain. TL, DR: The church accumulates a lot of power and a shit ton of abuse starts going unpunished by the authorities. Some monks are tasked with defending the Church after the Church starts saying that anybody who donates for the Basilica de San pedro (Idk how it's in English) is pardoned for their sins (Not that you go to heaven). People obviously take it as a pay-for-win scheme and get fucking annoyed about this. Among these monk is a cool guy named Luther who had formerly written defending the Church and asking it to even go more hardcore regarding the Bible. The Church has this weird system that whatever it says is based upon what's written on the Bible and the guidance of God on some particular moment. Basically: Patching broken stuff. And Luther wanted to patch this weird shit. "Hey, let's go back to F2P and let's drop this bullshit" but the Church gave 0 fucks and even sent a guy to argue with him. Even though this guy was a pro lvl99 and disarmed Luther arguments, he arrived in pretty stuff covered with Gold which didn't made the peasants happy. Luther said again "Drop. This. Shit" and the Church applied the Banhammer upon him. Surprise motherfucker. Some German princes who were starting to get wary and tired of the Church offered him a safe place and told him to keep writing and arousing the forums. Now the scheme was "If you believe in Jesus and follow his word, then you are saved" which basically lit a pretty huge fire in Europe. Imagine if suddenly half the PUBG player base migrate to H1Z1 King of the Kill. Absolutely fookin nuts. And afterwards, as some people saw that there were opportunities to be made, they modded Luther's base game and started creating their own variations. And that's how you got so many different Churches nowadays.

As far as I know.
Satan means "enemy" and "adversary" in Hebrew, while Lucifer means "the morning star, the planet Venus", or, as an adjective, "light-bringing". Satan deceives people with evil and temptations who may of been a fallen angel. Lucifer tried to ascend above God, but pride lead to his descent to the underworld. They maybe one and the same or two completely different individuals.
Don't the evangelists despise the pope and look on him as "that pretender in Rome"?
Many go a step further and call him the anti-christ. I'm genuinely curious what they think when a pope dies and another is elected. Do they think they just elected a new anti-christ, or the most current pope is the "real" one?
I wonder how the sect/cult like churches all over the US will react to this.
hating catholics is as american as apple pie, an age old tradition that goes way back. they used to slander opposing politicians because they were catholic.
Don't the evangelists despise the pope and look on him as "that pretender in Rome"?
Yeah that's exactly why I'm wondering.
well he IS considered to be Satan in later books of the bible, so technically evil, although one might argue that he gives us free will, whereas adam and eve had no freedom before being tempted by him
Issues is that its been written by random human beings a shitload of times including most of it is literally fan fiction. Hell isnt some burning torture land ruled by satan either, that really was fan fiction.

Where Protestantism and Catholicism really have their main differences are the fact that Protestantism says in order to go to heaven you must do so based on faith alone, but Catholicism says you must do good deeds.
hating catholics is as american as apple pie, an age old tradition that goes way back. they used to slander opposing politicians because they were catholic.
"They'll serve Rome before they serve America" is the general fear IIRC

They aren't the same thing.
