Hey
I was wondering if people on FP know any Martial Arts, what style do you use and how experianced are you? and any significant experiances you've had in training/grading/tournament?
I'll start: Shao Chi Chuan Kung Fu (Chans MArtial arts :P )been doing it for about a year and a half, my current rank is blue purple tip hoping soon become purple sash.
At my last grading I had to break a board with an ax kick, on my 1st try I ended up hitting myself if the face with my knee causeing me to go blind in one eye for about a minute >_< but on my 2nd attempt I broke it. Not bad considering I couldn't see out of one eye...

Half the "Martial Arts" around my area is bullshit. The kids who take them think they can beat anybody in a fight fail hard.
I've actually been looking into martial arts. I might get around to learning a style one day.
I do Wado Ryo, which is a type of Karate.
When I was a kid I wanted to get into karate. I went to the gym, and like all kids I sat by the wall watching two guys sparring. One of them broke the other dude's nose with a kick. After some blood-cleaning and drama, he looked for another sparring-partner and saw me.
I told him "fuck you" and never went to a gym again.
Sambo.
Does folkstyle wrestling count?
I practice Goju-ryu karate under Ilpo Aavista 7th dan. I've been doing it for about 3 years now and if everything goes according to plan I will have a brown belt this summer.
I like Goju-ryu, it has both hard and soft techniques and is pretty much all-round. But then again the only thing I have to compare it with was some half-assed Ji-jutsu I learned from some guy in the basement of a school so yeah..
I wanted to learn karate to kick ass. once i realized you had to learn a bunch of useless Japanese crap I left and never went back
I want to learn Krav Maga.
Jujitsu. Not that I'll ever need to use it in the near future.
Everyone I know that does Martial Arts never shut the fuck up about it.
why learn martial arts. its fucking useless unless your fighting someone who knows it. And guess what? Gangsters and chavs that jump you, DON'T know martial arts. Take kickboxing or MMA if you want to have a chance in a fight. Or just regular boxing.
i play hard mode in street fighter
I have a black belt in "kick your ass"
Don't need any of that Jackie Chan bullshit to win a fight.
I did Okinawa Guju Ryu Karate-do for about 3 years. Never got good at it though.
Amateur boxer here, traditional east asian martial arts are fraudulent and immoral.
Took shudokan for a few years. Quit just before black belt.

Complete bullshit
I'm doing Tang Soo Do. I wanna take up boxing though.

HNNNGEE.
Kickboxing and boxing ARE martial arts you dunce.
Why does everyone think you need to jump around in pajamas and perform regimented dance patterns to be a martial art? Martial art literally means : Combat art.
Martial arts tend to make pretentious dicks.
Took classes for two years and quit when they changed the billing.
I did Judo between 1999 and 2000.
After that, well...
Own-composed, independently trained MMA-variant which incorporates stuff from, amongst others, Krav Maga, Ninjutsu, Karate, Systema and so on.
I had Karate for 7 years, but quit not long ago. I was bored.
I used to do Aikido it is performed by blending with the motion of the attacker and redirecting the force of the attack rather than opposing it head-on. This requires very little physical strength. I was so bad ass that I felt that I had an unfair advantage and stopped my training. I often slow down in car races as well because I don't like to make other people feel bad.
I've been doing Traditional/Japanese Jujitsu since October 2008, if you want to be colloquial it's more of a grapple and counter style but there's plenty of application in it as well. You would be surprised how little the difference in something as simple as Kotegaeshi (wrist lock) goes from "hey that kind of hurts" to "OH JESUS THE BONE IS SHOWING".
I use my mantis style
