Russia are the main backers of the Regime in Syria. Qatar is one of the main backers of the Syrian Free Army/Extremists. Qatar wants to build a pipeline through Syria, but Assad does not let them. So Qatar is funding and helping out hte rebels. Why does Qatar want a pipeline there? So they can supply liquid natural gas to Europe at low cost. The alternative would be to use oil cargo ships, and that would be a lot more expensive. Russia is the main seller of natural gas to Europe, thus Russia does not want Qatar to cut into their profits.
Great video. Yes, the past conflicts between the U.S. and Russia/Soviet Union were never really about resources or even positioning, but for influence.
