Hey there, everyone. Like the title says, I just ran my first Spartan Race. For people who don't know what a Spartan Race is, you can learn more about it at http://www.spartanrace.com/. Basically, it's a timed race over varied terrain with obstacles interspersed throughout the course.
I ran it today during the 9:15 heat at Blue Mountain in Palmerton, Pennsylvania. There was 1000 feet of vertical height for this race. If you've got any questions about the race itself, my experience as a first-time racer, the obstacles, my training, or anything else, feel free to ask.
Been wanting to do one for years, and been putting them off because of other shit happening on or close to their dates.
Did you have to serve any burpee penalties?
Any particularly tricky obstacles?

I cannot recommend this race highly enough. You should absolutely attempt it.
Burpees? I did 150 Burpees. Literally, any obstacle I could fail, I failed. I had no idea what it would take to get past some of those obstacles and I took the Burpees like a man.
I had special trouble with the tire flips. The mens' tire was huge and heavy, and I was used to flipping smaller tires, so it took me five minutes to flip it four times. The rope climb and the 17' horizontal traverse wall also were terrible for me. The sandbag carry was absolutely killer too - the weight was perfectly manageable, 40 lbs. isn't that heavy and I could lift and carry it easily, but I had to do it up an almost 50 degree slope for half of it. Everyone got murdered on that obstacle. Had it been on a flat path, such as the cinderblock drag, it would have been a piece of cake. But as soon as I got to the apex of that obstacle, I took a short look at the pretty view and then did not stop running down the hill I had climbed - it literally took me 45 second to descend what took me 7 minutes to ascend. Other than that, the assorted walls just take a bit of strength, technique, and confidence to get over, and the barbed wire just takes time and pain tolerance, because the sharp rocks dug into my skin.

My parents and I love each other very much. My mother and I talk more than me and my dad, and therefore fight more than my father and me. But we all love each other.
