• Need a new video card

Hi, I've built a custom PC a few years ago and it's been getting slower with newer games so I thought I'd start shopping for a new video card. Here's my current rig: MB: ASUS P8P67 CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz MEM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) GFX: ATI Radeon HD 5850 (725 MHz) 1024 MB (1000 MHz) I can run most games at high at 60fps but now I'd like to know which video card should I get that would fit on my rig and would make me able to max my settings out? Any suggestions are welcome! Thanks
I'd suggest the 770 or the r9 280x. What's your budget?
What's your budget? Also, have you got an overclock? What country are you in?

Thanks I'll go check those models :P
I've got an r9 280x myself, i'd go for a 770.
I can confirm that the 770 is good while also not being insanely expensive.
EVGA or MSI normally.
Great, I have a 500w PSU if my old GFX card was working well on it I guess I won't need a bigger PSU? It always worries me how power does my rig suck and I always have no idea hehe thx
Brand? [editline]17th April 2014[/editline] On the psu, that is

You could always wait for the 8 series Nvidia cards.
You could always wait for the 8 series Nvidia cards.
That'll be a while before they come out.
Asus has the best cooling system for the 770
Any "brand" suggestion? MSI, Gigabyte, ASUS, EVGA, Sapphire does it I think. Thanks!
If you want to play at a resolution of 1920x1080 on high/ultra settings then a GTX 760/Radeon r9 270x is usually good enough. It's very well within your price range. If you want to absolutely max out games or play at a resolution higher than 1920x1080 then you can get a GTX 770/Radeon r9 280x. For vendors I reccomend: AMD: Asus, and Sapphire. Nvidia: Asus, EVGA, MSI, and Zotac. They don't cut corners that can affect reliability unlike what lower tier vendors are more likely to do.
Gigabyte's windforce cooler is not as loud, go with that if you're not going to overclock.
They're basically the same
Asus has the best cooling system for the 770
Is that the 'DirectCU' design? If so stay well away - they bend and overheat
They're basically the same
Decibels are logarithmic, though, so there's a huge difference between even 40 and 50dB on that graph. They're not "basically the same". Also, the MSI cooler is very well-braced and solid, I own a 270 of that brand along with several others and it cools so much better than all my other cards at the same specified rpm while not being bendy because of a large metal brace the length of the card.

There's a 1db difference. And regardless of your own personal opinions on the brands the MSI cooler is almost 10 degrees hotter at the same clock speed under load as the Asus card, and that's certainly not something I would want, regardless of whether it's a bit quieter.
Do yourself a favor: Right now Used R9 280x's are being sold at around $200 thanks to stuff going on in the cryptocurrency markets. Go check out Amazon. Also: ... :v:
Show me where a 280x is being sold for $200
Amazon. Tons of people lost their bitcoins in the Mt. Gox fiasco, and now they are selling all of their video cards from their rigs.
Oh that's a pretty good deal then, I would definitely get one. Should be similar to a 770
