• Making peace with death

A few days ago I went to go see "The Invention of Lying" while high as shit with my roommate and his friend. So the once scene where [sp]the grandmother is told she is going to die that night[/sp] got me thinking. What happens when we die? Atheists say "absolutely nothing." That's it. It's game over and there's nothingness after death. Religious people say the soul continues on or is reincarnated. I have made my peace with either of those answers. I say this because either way you're free from this world. No responsibilities, no worries, no getting sick, dealing with sick, stupid or moronic people, etc. It's just nothing. There is nothing. Very peaceful. Anyone you know who has died is now at rest. Whatever happens to them, be happy they are not here to deal with all the bad and stupid in this world anymore. There's no reason to be sad they're gone; but to be happy that they were alive. Now this is not saying I am going to go kill myself and you should too or you shouldn't be afraid to die. Oh hell no, I like my life as it is and enjoy all my friends company and I am still afraid to die. What I am saying, however, is when that day comes, I'm ready and I'm saying you should be ready too.
Good to know.
People are afraid of death because its a natural human instinct A.K.A Humans are afraid of what they don't understand.
Yeah? What about the people who are alive. It's not so peaceful for them, some guy grieving over the death of his father or something.
How is nothing peaceful? Did you find the time from the beginning of the universe to your first conscience thought peaceful? I doubt it.
It would be nice if there actually were something after you die. But i'm not expecting anything.
i myself am not afraid of death
How is nothing peaceful? Did you find the time from the beginning of the universe to your first conscience thought peaceful? I doubt it.
I do actually. I thought about death being like before birth: Not a thought or a care in the world.
I do actually. I thought about death being like before birth: Not a thought or a care in the world.
You don't because you have no way of knowing what not existing felt like at the time.
I read a book about a girl who remembers before she was born.
It would be nice if there actually were something after you die. But i'm not expecting anything.
If there is you're probably not going to get inside it.
Who fucking cares? Live life while you can, Then when you die you figure out. don't waste your life figuring out whats after life
I am not afraid of death, because in the end, it will be either good, or just not bad.
What if we die....then its just black....that would be weird
i myself am not afraid of death
Nobody believes you.
What if we die....then its just black....that would be weird
you wouldn't be consciously aware of it.
What if we die....then its just black....that would be weird
Although I hope its not, This is what I think happens sadly.
Unfortunately all the people who have died in my life I hardly knew. Glad you can make peace with death. But I wonder how willing you will be when he comes stalking by, asking you to venture into his mystery.
Ill be happy the time it comes because im grateful for the things i have experienced.
It's like sleeping only for a really fucking long time.
i'm a zombie, does that count?
It's like sleeping only for a really fucking long time.
Try... forever. :3:
Making peace with death means that you aren't fighting enough.
Try... forever. :3:
You know how when you sleep you see black? like a black screen? I guess death is like that. But forever. OH GOD I HOPE YOU DON'T ACTUALLY STAY AWAKE WHILE LOOKING AT THAT BLACK SCREEN. YOU WOULD LOOK AT IT FOREVER WITH NOTHING TO DO.
You know how when you sleep you see black? like a black screen? I guess death is like that. But forever. OH GOD I HOPE YOU DON'T ACTUALLY STAY AWAKE WHILE LOOKING AT THAT BLACK SCREEN. You people don't understand death, there's no black, there's no dark, no sounds, pain, it's not even possible to be bored because your brain gives you the feeling of boredom. No brain=No feeling. Of course we can't understand total nothingness because there is always something, even if it's blackness.
Post-death nothingness isn't sitting in some black void where you get to meditate all day. You're dead. No going back, nothing left of you, you're gone. That's why people are sad when others die, the person has disappeared forever. They haven't gone to a better place, they're not still existent in some infinite plane thinking 'wow this is jolly nice peace and quiet', they're gone.
I don't see how reincarnation means that "you're free from this world". You're bound to it, you respawn, you're born anew, back to the same damn shitty place. And if your soul goes on then you may be free from this world, but your soul will keep on traveling, and inhabitate a new body which keeps it bound to the earth, or another planet, at least some other living thing somewhere. But your soul isn't the you you know and live as, it's just a part of you. So it's true in a way that YOU "are free from the world".
You people don't understand death, there's no black, there's no dark, no sounds, pain, it's not even possible to be bored because your brain gives you the feeling of boredom. Not being consciousness is something you can easily imagine and think because you know it's nothing. Thinking back to before you were born will explain everything of how not being consciousness is, something that isn't there. You can however obviously like you said not actually imagine the feeling or actual thought of not being conscious becuase there is none. But that doesn't mean you can't understand it, you can just not feel it and see the cause from it's view. because it has no view. It's one sided.
It's kind of weird to think that your consciousness goes away completely when you die it makes you wonder what meaning your life really has.
