NASA turns research to California drought http://www.ktvu.com/ap/ap/defense/nasa-researchers-helping-with-california-drought/ndb8X/
NASA scientists have begun deploying satellites and other advanced technology to help California water officials assess the state's record drought and better manage it, officials said Tuesday. The California Department of Water Resources has partnered with NASA to use the space agency's satellite data and other airborne technology to better measure the snowpack, groundwater levels and predict storms. "It sounds like a cliche, but if they could put a man on the moon, why can't we get better seasonal forecasting?" Jeanine Jones of the state's Department of Water Resources said in an interview following the Sacramento announcement of the partnership.
Santa Clara Valley Water District asks for 20-percent reduction http://www.ktvu.com/news/news/local/santa-clara-valley-water-district-asks-20-percent-/ndcYy/
Tuesday night the Santa Clara Valley Water District set a 20 percent reduction target for water use and asked the 13 cities and water retailers it serves to meet that goal. This is an increase from a 10 percent target set by the board in January. “Conditions both statewide and locally have not improved since January 28,” said Santa Clara County Water District Deputy Operating Officer Joan Maher. The district is the largest water provider in the South Bay and serves cities such as Santa Clara and the San Jose Water Company. The board voted for the reduction which calls on its water retailers to implement mandatory steps, if necessary, to meet the 20-percent goal.
Legislature passes $687 million drought plan http://www.ktvu.com/news/news/local/legislative-committees-approve-687-million-drought/ndkBC/
California lawmakers on Thursday overwhelmingly passed a $687 million plan to provide immediate relief to drought-stricken communities, a package that includes emergency money for communities running low on drinking water and farming communities where fallowed fields are leading to sky-high unemployment.
We're getting a bit of much needed rain recently, but it's still pretty bad.
I live in California I knew it was bad Didn't know it was THIS fucking bad Good thing it's supposed to "storm" tomorrow
I live in California I knew it was bad Didn't know it was THIS fucking bad Good thing it's supposed to "storm" tomorrow
Yea, pretty much anytime we even get the smallest sprinkling of rain the local news goes fuckin' nuts over it. Last big storm I've seen happened about 15 years ago back in elementary school, constant rain for damn near a week straight.
Sister currently lives in long beach, My family lived there for 12 years. Water was always a looming problem but no one seemed to care or notice, everyone focused on the minor earthquakes that spilled over your $11 coffee [editline]27th February 2014[/editline]
Yea, pretty much anytime we even get the smallest sprinkling of rain the local news goes fuckin' nuts over it. I live in PA now and it was about the same as the rain we get in the fall.
heellllpppp ussssssssss......
It rained here in Sacramento yesterday and maybe a little bit today, at least.
This is about the time when a Decanter of Endless Water might go for any amount of money. Too bad we don't have any of those knocking about. :(
We need water. And we need it bad. Even if it rains every day for the next month, we still won't be out of a drought.
Hopefully it rains a good amount tomorrow. Today it only really rained in the early morning for a little while.
holy fuck those pictures are serious, I live in Los Angeles too
Quick! Build a bunch of desalination plants!
This winter has been fucked, its rained about five times so far where I'm at. [editline]27th February 2014[/editline] oh fuck its raining yessss
Been raining the last few days here in San Francisco.
wow it stopped raining already
Even when their has been rain, my area is tucked in between a bunch of mountains so everything just spread out around us. So it's been forever since we got anything more than sprinkles. That picture looks terrible. Supposed to get some rain tomorrow, hopefully that holds true
please god, just give us more goddamn rain i'm tired of having to conserve water and shit.

Also that "small storm" will be giving california about as much rainwater as we had in the entire last year.
Pouring right now in Santa Barbara. I can't stand conserving water...
Wow no wonder my allergies are getting crazy as fuck, too damn dusty.
Wow no wonder my allergies are getting crazy as fuck, too damn dusty.
Allergies in CA are horrible regardless of the drought. I'm somewhat worried because I live close to the burn areas so there is a remote flash flood possibility
It just rained today and last night, and is going to rain tomorrow/weekend so we might be doing better.
California confirmed for Arrakis
Soon.
You guys should head up north. We have piles of surplus water chips.
Water chips won't matter if you don't have any water.
Was about to take a shower when I came across this article. Decided to save some water and skip on it until tomorrow...

It's raining hard like a motherfucker again in Fremont. About to go bathe outside and save California from this drought.
