It actually looks pretty cool One thing to note from the description
I've decided to remove the comments section because the 80% of the comments were C&D related. Sorry about that. We just need to clarify something: Konami owns the MGS copyright and therefore sooner or later we will need their full permission. We have therefore chosen to openly share this project from the beginning so that we can deal with any issues that may arise as they come. We believe this is better than putting years of work into a project only to get it shut down. Please, respect this decision. Thanks for your attention, Airam.
As awesome as this is, it makes me want to play twin snakes again :(
So far it kinda seems like they just have a bunch of maps and models, but no actual game there yet. I don't really have very high hopes for the game side of it if they decided to focus on making all the assets before they have any kind of gameplay stuff done.
It's hard to tell if Snake was actually doing game-y things in a few of the shots or if they were just scripted animations for the sake of the trailer. Honestly MGS1 still operates like a 2D game so it shouldn't be hard in theory to recreate the base gameplay, it's just a few of the weapons take advantage of the 3D space, like the sniper rifle, stinger missiles, nikita missiles and grenades. If this project doesn't get sacked it'll be interesting to see what changes they want to do to the gameplay to modernize it, if any.
Konami owns the MGS copyright and therefore sooner or later we will need their full permission.
Good luck with that....
wasn't there already a team remaking MGS (or the first metal gear, can't remember which) who got shut down by konami right when their project was nearly finished
Good luck with that....
Yeah, these guys seem like they're just hoping Konami will let them do this out of goodness of their hearts. Here's how you make these kind of projects: you keep it completely quiet until it's more or less finished, then you go public and you release it. If you get shut down, it's already out there so it'll stay around one way or another and at that point no one can shut anything down. But no, of course, they always just have to show it all off and get all the recognition and attention.
If this ever got released I want a classic mode that keeps all the gameplay elements of the original rather than adding the MGS2 mechanics like Twin Snakes did.
wow
why does snake look all weird
I just find it hilarious they even expect Konami to be ok with that with the current drama.
And that they shut down another metal gear remake
If this ever got released I want a classic mode that keeps all the gameplay elements of the original rather than adding the MGS2 mechanics like Twin Snakes did.
I kinda liked how over the top the cutscenes were, kinda shows Solid Snake in his prime vs Guns of the Patriots where he's aged substantially.
Who even wants this? If it's a 1:1 remake it'll have the same issues as the original ala the lack of guards as the game progresses + backtracking for folks who don't know what boxes can do. I'd rather just play the original, at least it'll have Cam Clarke and Kim Mai Guest in my ears.
Ehh they had him doing stuff only Raiden would be doing in Twin Snakes in my opinion. If his prime was MG 2 - MGS 2, he wasn't bouncing off the wall or flipping out. That's the problem too - We really only have MGS 1 and MGS 2 to judge so the rest is left to interpretation by all the different fans about what kind of character Snake is suppposed to be. It's why I'd only take a true remake of these from KojiPro. But at the same time I don't really want anything Metal Gear from Kojima at this point because he's just shy of going the way of George Lucas.
Kind of unfair. Kojima was forced to continue the franchise for as long as he did.
Kind of unfair. Kojima was forced to continue the franchise for as long as he did.
This old excuse again? It's not like he was held hostage and that it severely hindered his writing abilities over all these years. In fact, he's been vocal over how much he enjoyed making MGSV and has no regrets over it.
And that they shut down another metal gear remake
That one I REAAALY fucking wanted badly ( I belive the guy who voiced snake was on bored ) and I never played Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake which I would to update today but only under a true fan or hideo him self not fucking konami
I'd Like to see the original MGS with MGSV mechanics
I'd Like to see the original MGS with MGSV mechanics
They'd have to rebalance the Genome Soldiers and redesign the whole game around it, honestly. 1:1 areas don't really work with the ability to shoot people from outside their sight ranges and beyond their capability, and there's not a lot of things to take advantage of MGSV mechanics without some changes. And even if the guards got new AI instead of the old sight triangles to accommodate, again the environments would need alterations so the player has more places to hide and evade enemy sight.
If I recall correctly Kojima said he'd like to see someone else do a re-imagining of MGS1 on FOX Engine. Personally I love the original as it is and would rather they didn't re-tread that ground, but I'm not one for remakes in general.
I kinda liked how over the top the cutscenes were, kinda shows Solid Snake in his prime vs Guns of the Patriots where he's aged substantially.
Ugh, no. ~360 NOSCOPE~ing sniper wolf is just fucking silly. Silly even by MGS standards. Flipping over a doorway for no reason is just fucking stupid. And this fucking shit: Twin Snakes is unforgivable garbage.
Twin Snakes is fucking hilarious, whether you believe it's Raiden in Shadow Moses simulation training or a drunk Otacon retelling the story over-dramatically and making Snake seem like a mix of a ninja and a jackass [editline]18th January 2016[/editline] At least, the cutscenes are hilarious. Naomi and Campbell's VAs utterly phoned in their codec conversations though, there's almost no emotion whatsoever in them, and the music is just generic early 2000's synth that kinda wipes out the character of the original game's music tone and themes.
To be fair, they probably need to recruit people for voice acting and such, and it's hard to get people on board with a project you can't say anything about.
With the lines from the trailer, they seem to be willing to directly take from Twin Snakes for the dialogue
The Twin Snakes had the issue of having first person aiming. Now first person aiming was great for 2 and the other games in the series, but not for Twin Snakes. The areas weren't big enough or varied to allow for a successfully incorporated mechanic like the first person shooting that worked well in, again, 2/3/4 and what not. I think instead of changing the cutscenes, what really needed to be changed was the whole experience, the moments where you sneak and act stealthy. That could have been expanded but unfortunately... The whole game felt bland. The codec conversations were dry, and contrast to it, the cutscenes were fucking crazy and unlike MGS. Like MGS usually has surreal shit. But it's usually grounded and understandable in some sort of way. The Twin Snakes was just weird even for Metal Gear Solid standards.
Ugh every single remaker fucks up. I'd make the whole thing and then drop it under free-use. Konami wants me to take it down? That's fine cause it's already released and fans can independently fileshare.
why does snake look all weird
He looks kind of off to me too but I can't pinpoint why. Apparently they're basing his look on the MGS4 model.
Twin Snakes is unforgivable garbage.
Mmm i'd call it more a guilty pleasure, but then i'm probably able to forgive it more than yourself for some of the things i liked about it i'd never consider it cannon, but to each is own my favorite will forever be Snake Eater.
