Wont the appeal cost them MORE than the fine?
So when its a feud between big companies the costs go into the tens or hundreds of millions, but when consumers suffer losses because of their failure to provide proper security, they get fined pocket change? Sounds about right.
People will do anything to defend their fortress (company). People, the consumer/user, come and go, but making a company as big and established isn't easy. I agree, though, that they should be doing better to provide better security (How hard is it to not store things in plaintext anyway?).
