[release][t]http://img.gawkerassets.com/img/17gjiif6t7vc4jpg/original.jpg[/t] Microsoft: New Xbox Won’t Be Shown at This Year’s E3 Microsoft's saying that the successor to the Xbox 360 won't be the star of the show at 2012's Electronic Entertainment Expo. Speculation had been rising that Microsoft would be the next major platform player to show the successor to their current hardware. Rumors reportedly have the console code-named Durango, claim that it won't be a disc-based machine and speculate that it won't play pre-owned games. Expectations for a Durango reveal this year were running high but a tweet from Bloomberg News reporter Dina Bass quashed those hopes. Kotaku's confirmed that Microsoft's future hardware plans won't be the focus of this year's E3. Microsoft's full statement follows:
While we appreciate all the interest in our long-range plans for the future, we can confirm that there will be no talk of new Xbox hardware at E3 or anytime soon. For us, 2012 is all about Xbox 360-and it's the best year ever for Xbox 360. The console is coming off its biggest year ever-a year in which Xbox outsold all other consoles worldwide. Xbox 360 didn't just outsell other consoles, it also outsold all other TV-connected devices like DVD players, as well as digital media receivers and home theatre systems. And in our seventh year, we sold more consoles than in any other year-defying convention. This year, we will build on that Xbox 360 momentum. With "Halo 4," "Forza Horizon," "Fable: The Journey," and other great Kinect games on the way, our 2012 Xbox lineup is our strongest ever. This year, we will deliver more TV, music, and movie experiences for Xbox 360-as we'll make it even easier to find and control your all entertainment. And this year, Xbox games, music, and video are coming to Windows 8 so people can enjoy their Xbox entertainment wherever they go.
With this statement coming soon after Sony's declaration that they won't be talking about the PS4 (or whatever they'll be calling the follow-up to the PS3) at the upcoming E3, it seems that we won't be hearing about the future of consoles—aside from Nintendo's already announced Wii U—for a little while yet. Most likely E3 2013.
I'm glad, personally.
Perhaps they'll take their time and get a good launch unlike the rough one the 360 had.
Kinect 2 confirmed to be at e3? Check out more at IGN! No but seriously, that sucks.
My guess is E3 2014 at best.
I don't want the new Xbox to come out, All of them Digital Downloads man.
Mein automerge And speaking of rough launches, my 360 RROD'd after less than an hour of playing the copy of COD2 that came with it.
Why are they pushing 7 year old hardware so hard? The games while admittedly decent for such an old machine still look like shit compared to PC graphics. While Kinect is cool, it doesn't run as well as it should. They really need to let the 360 die and release a new product. I remember reading an interview where they said they wanted to keep the 360 alive until 2015. That's completely ridiculous, and it's holding back PC graphics as well. Developers won't make the best looking games they can because they figure why try if it won't run on a shitbasket console. And no, I don't hate consoles, I just thing that they are being lazy about it and making everything worse in the process. /rant
Haven't Sony and Microsoft always said 2015? I didn't think they would keep it going but it looks like they are serious
we'll make it even easier to find and control your all entertainment
Hmmmm.....
releasing a new (and potentially $300 at the very least) console right now would be a very retarded move people are fraeking out left and right about the economy
Y'know, that's pretty much the reason this generation of consoles lasted so long. [editline]15th March 2012[/editline]
Hmmmm.....
Let me fix that for Microsoft:
We'll make it even easier for us to control all your content

Graphics are everything, man. [editline]15th March 2012[/editline] I'm going to jerk off onto my graphics card, excuse me.
A few years ago, yes, the people bitching were mainly just graphics masturbating "Gamers". But now, it goes beyond that. Look at Battlefield 3. Consoles are literally too weak to handle the full potential of the game. The weakness of consoles now isn't just limiting the graphics of games, it's limiting the gameplay potential now. To put it simply, consoles have failed to keep pace with the industry.
I honestly feel like they're still unlocking the 360's true potential as a multimedia machine though. PS3 feels like it just hit a brick wall and is never going to recover. All sony can do is learn from the mistakes they made. Wii was pretty strong from the get go and never really had any issues.
Got the 360 2 years ago, so I'm fine with this. My only concern is the rumors about the lacking disk drive.
What Dina actually meant was: "For MS, 2012 is all about Kinect." and maybe a cost increase for xbl gold. But good thing 2012 is not going to show the new xbox.
So instead of being about a new console its going to be about soul less children and non gamers saying how awesome the kinect is.

can you imagine how shit can someone feel when he'll buy the 360 and the next day there's xbox "720"
Good, maybe now they will give it decent hardware instead of a shitty Radeon HD 6670 equivalent.
Interesting choice about no pre-owned games compatibility, I suppose its good for developers because then they'll not be losing out on money from that.

No pre-used? No rental? Shit sucks.
At what point did the PS3 hit a brick wall.
You can't improve on something that can already do everything!
Isn't the new Halo going to be on the 360? That might be partly the reason for the delay since that's basically the console's main franchise.
That wouldn't be very good anyway, if I recall correctly Halo 4 is being shown there, so demoing that on a 360 then Microsoft unveiling a new console wouldn't be the best mix.

One where graphics are NOT the main focus of the game design. How will we live?
E3 2013, and the big announcement of the show not only will be the reveal, but will be that it's going to come out that holiday season Calling it, 2013 Q4 = new xbox in your hands
