7,200rpm spin speed,
2, 3, 4, 5 and 6TB capacity points,
128MB cache,
encryption option with Secure Instant Erase or SED FIPS 140-2 option,
SAS 12Gbit/s and SATA 6Gbit/s interface options and
a 25 per cent increase in areal density.
I wonder at what point will the size of a singular harddrive overcome the amount of memory required to store all of the porn.
Now I can loose 6 TB of data!

And you can then tighten it afterwards!

Never, porn will continue to grow at a rate higher than drive capacity. Porn is the largest unstoppable juggernaut on the planet.
I can't store mine. Maybe what's in the favourites folder. From A to F. If I .zip it.

Are you kidding.
I can't even store 1/4th of the A folder.

How is it in a folder if you can't store it? :)
finally a place to store all train simulator DLC
Wonder what the failure rate will look like.

NFS symlinks. The struggle is real.

Maybe something like this:

To put that in context: If you stacked all of the hard drive's bits on top of each other from here to the Moon, you could almost fit Max Payne 3 on it
Now I can loose 6 TB of data!
This is my biggest problem with bigger and bigger drives. At some point (if we haven't already) we are going to hit a size where its too risky to store it on one drive.

How did you work that out? :P
Let me know when WD release one, nearly every seagate drive I've ever had has failed quickly.

Hitachi's are like fucking rocks!

The way forward

Smurfy you lying bastard, you can't do that.
I'm more interested in that helium-filled one by Hitachi listed in the same article. Probably expensive as fuck, though.

That's why RAID exists.

Pfft RAID 5 is for pussies, just store it all one one RAID 0 volume. Gotta live on the edge.

With this drive, even with RAID its going to be risky IMO because of how many seagate drives fail. It'll be fine if you have an endless supply of these 6Tb drives lying around.

yup, i have 2 seagate HDs, and one is nearly dead, to the point of ceasing to function at random moments, the other has some bad blocks but thankfully its still within the limit, never buying another seagate again lol, my western digital on the other hand is 6+ years old and in perfect conditions.

My fault for assuming my dad who worked with computers most of his life knew what he was talking about when he said the performance gain from RAID 0 is sufficient and that SSDs aren't worth the enormous amount of money. Guess I know what components i'm saving up for next, at least for now i've got all my [del]porn[/del] valuable documents stored on a spare drive. Both are fairly new WD drives, so they're not soon going to randomly die like various Seagates i've had over the years.

Only price I could find was on a German site, something like €650. I bet its reliable as hell though.

Put 5 of these in RAID 0 and then use it store your life savings in a bitcoin wallet, it's the only way to live

One solution (maybe not cost effective but..) would be to buy another two sets of the drives you currently use and turn that RAID 0 into a RAID 5+0 (assuming whatever is controlling your array supports it).
Of course, the better option might be to run like the wind away from RAID arrays unless you really need one tbh.
Big SSDs are finally starting to become affordable lately which is awesome, some 480GB drives are <£200, it's happening

Just sayin', but Backblaze's data has been disputed on multiple accounts.

interesting, but i still tend to see far more complaints about seagates on the internet, as well as in IRL, than from other ones.
Still stuck with my 250 and 500 gb wd cavier black drives :/
