The exhibition explores the importance of eleven atmospheric gases from the periodic table. From the oxygen that we breathe, to the nitrogen that is a critical building block for all living things, to the neon that has helped make our community one of the top tourist destinations in the world, It’s a Gas! provides visitors of all ages an opportunity to gain a better understanding of these important elements in a fun and highly interactive way.
This is one of those exhibits that goes around the country and fills up museums and nobody notices. However, you should notice it, if it's in your area, because it's totally rad. Basically an artist did a bunch of blown glass sculptures that are also inter gas discharge tubes. So when you touch them they glow bright, and some of them you can actually draw with and stuff. Also the exhibit is full of cool sciencey facts that you can learn way better on wikipedia. Anyway, I was in contact with the museum and I made this video for them, and it's pretty cool so I thought I'd share the bit with the internet. Tell me how much you love glowing balls and gas.
that is pretty funky i suppose this is a US thing yeah
Funky stuff.
I used to be so scared of plasma balls as a kid
They have an exhibit of stuff like this in the science center downtown, and it's very cool stuff. It's cool watching the arcs of energy follow your fingertips around the surface of the glass. Makes you feel like a wizard.
i love cool shit i don't understand.
I used to be so scared of plasma balls as a kid
Haha, me too. Always thought they'd burn me.
I have a disassembled plasma ball around here Fun to make it arc onto a screwdriver, my speakers went spastic whenever I did
I used to play with those plasma ball things all the time as a kid, it was like a little lightning storm in a jar. This is neat!
If I could, I'd probably give this a watch sometimes. Sadly I can't.
One time, I was playing with a plasma ball beside my bed, and the ball exploded in my hands. I had glass fragments all through my palms :saddowns:
Fucking trippy
it just exploded?
All over his keyboard!
And i just found one of those USB-Plasma Balls things in my drawer. It looks awesome, but when i saw those Gas tubes I was like "Holy Fuck!".
am i the only one wondering where the fuck captain bald has BEEN all this time?
it just exploded?
Yeah. I had both my hands on the plasma ball, and all of the sudden I started hearing a high-pitched whirring. Then, it exploded with a really loud popping noise, and the glass shattered all over my nightstand. My first reaction was to pull the plug, and my second one was to scream when I realized I just pressed the glass into my palm more.
it just exploded?
My god... I HOPE it exploded in ur face xD (User was banned for this post ("What a mean thing to hope" - Big Dumb American))
That's a mean thing to hope.
Yes it's a gas at first. But when it is plasma it is no longer a gas :3
Yes it's a gas at first. But when it is plasma it is no longer a gas :3
Yeah then it's an ionized gas. :downs:
pretty funky...
I really love that kind of stuff! I'd like to have one of these.
am i the only one wondering where the fuck captain bald has BEEN all this time?
College, dropout, career.

There was a time I set a wad of paper on fire with a plasma ball... It was cool!
I was expecting something cooler, like a interesting physics thread or a video of what happens when you microwave fire.
Well I'm sorry I'm not good enough for you.
1. Put a medium sized piece of aluminum foil on the top of a plasma ball 2. Put a piece of paper over the aluminum 3. Take a knife (WITH A WOODEN OR PLASTIC HANDLE) and press the tip on the paper. It will burn the paper!
