Australian reports named the man as 45-year-old Mansor Almaribe from Shepparton in Victoria. Reports said he was chronically ill and family members said they were extremely worried about his health. "Five hundred lashes on his back, and he has back problems. I wouldn't think he'd survive 50," his son Mohammed told Australia's ABC News. Almaribe had travelled to the country for a pilgrimage to Mecca. He was arrested nearly a month ago, but details of the charges against him have not been made public. Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs said the judge initially handed down a sentence of two years in jail and 500 lashes, but later reduced the jail time.[/release] http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-16064123 500? That's alot of lashes
500? That's alot of lashes
About 500 too many. When will Saudi Arabia stop living in the middle ages?
convicted of blasphemy

pilgrimage to Mecca
uh
About 500 too many. When will Saudi Arabia stop living in the middle ages?
when the international community pulls its head out of its arse and actually makes it hurt Saudi Arabia to not get with the times. Sadly America needs Saudi Arabia to extend its huge wang into the Middle East without fear of it getting chopped off so Saudi Arabia can operate with impunity knowing it's got an inflow of money and support.
500 would kill him.
500 would kill him.
Like they care.

Enjoy your time without anymore oil.
Like they care.
Yes, religious bullshit is more important to some people than a human life, its quite sickening to say the least.
500 would kill anyone.
Fixed.
500 lashes? Do they got a lashing machine or something? Or do they take turns.
I shall cover my face in shame now.
500 lashes? Do they got a lashing machine or something? Or do they take turns.
They take turns.
I shall cover my face in shame now.
1000 lashes and the electric chair
That's nice. Enjoy your time without anymore oil.
Saudia Arabia's the second largest reserves of oil; it's not like international action would suddenly mean THE WORLD WOULD STOP TURNING. But... shouldn't, erm, human decency and, you know, not killing people for 'blasphemous behaviour' come above access to oil? Dream with me, here.

500 lashes would kill him, this is sick, goddamn religion makes these people act like savages.
That's nice. Enjoy your time without anymore oil.
so you're saying that a compromise cannot be found without allowing a middle eastern country to step on human rights. you might have a bit of a problem in the whole imagination department. guess what smartypants, if even just the first world stopped buying oil from saudi arabia and supporting the disgustingly rich families there, the country would be forced to weigh its survival economically or upholding middle-aged civil structure, and guess what people value more every time honestly it's pathetic that you're so short sighted but whatever enjoy your inability to think of solutions for things outside of "well what we're doing works now, sure a few hundred have to die but we get oil atm right"
Yeah but.. what did he do? He must have broken some really important law to be punished with all these lashes..
They do not perform all 500 lashes at the same time, it's over a period of time.
If it wasn't for their oil and drugs, these stone age cave people would be cut off from the rest of the world and left to rot away. Everything about these so called governments, justice systems and laws in the arab countries make me sick.
They do not perform all 500 lashes at the same time, it's over a period of time.
So its basically torture?
Yeah but.. what did he do? He must have broken some really important law to be punished with all these lashes..
You'll get lashed for anything down there.
You'll get lashed for anything down there.
You're lucky you aren't living in saudi land saying that. Thats 100 lashes right there. First rule of lashings, we do not talk about lashings, lest ye be lashed.
Can't believe there's not Spongebob videos or anything yet. That's the first thing I thought of.
Yeah but.. what did he do? He must have broken some really important law to be punished with all these lashes..
Stubbed his toe and said "Goddamnit"...probably.
500 lashes would kill him, this is sick, goddamn religion makes these people act like savages.
It doesn't make them, it allows them. Pisses me off.
It's OK because they're pro-West, the reward for bowing to U.S. interests. If they were developing nuclear weaponry I doubt two shits would be given. Look at Iran for example, where women can actually drive and can be head of government ministries, (people have more rights there to put it blunt) they are however, an anti-Western regime in a region where the U.S. wants to control badly so now we're seeing preparedness for war and covert regime change sponsored by the CIA. The U.S. doesn't care about human rights in the Middle East, and this is evidenced by the fact Saudi is worse. The goal is merely to maintain control and influence throughout the Middle East.
It doesn't make them, it allows them. Pisses me off.
It makes them for the most part, at least the people born into it knowing only the ideals that they are taught, therefore they think shit like this is ok.
Stubbed his toe and said "Goddamnit"...probably.
Might have said the messiah's name in vain.
