Police found Kenneth McRae and his wife Jane dead at their home on Bryan Budd Close, Rowley Regis, on July 17 last year after his colleagues raised concerns that they had not seen him.
Mr McRae was found on the first floor, his wrists and throat having been cut, and Mrs McRae was found in bed on the second floor with head injuries.
An inquest into the couple's deaths at Smethwick Council House on Monday heard that 55-year-old Mrs McRae had 'lain dead for several days' prior to Mr McRae killing himself.
She had been hit over the head with a perfume bottle, which was found at the scene.
A suicide note addressed to West Midlands Police was also found, and was read out in full at the inquest by Detective Inspector Derek Packham
Apparently the man who was a lab tech was driven mad because this weed (japanese knot weed) that grew at the end of his house which was uncontrollable and made his home unsellable.

A weed drove him to complete and utter insanity? A goddamn weed.
I'd almost say Japan is starting to take notes from Australia.
Why didn't he just use some roundup?
So does the weed make you go nuts, or was he just nuts?
I'm not really seeing anything here saying it does anything to you.
"Murder Suicide"
My head was hurting when I just saw the title

Knotweed is almost impossible to get rid of once you get it - roundup won't do shit.

it makes a lot more sense than a suicide murder
Weed kills
Not even once
Reminds me of kudzu (Japanese arrowroot) infesting the southeastern US.
Weed kills

knotweed's a weed not "weed"
edit: holy shit i was making wordplay
This sounds like something right out of a Stephen King novel.
You made it sound like the weed has toxins that made him crazy which confused me for a while.
Weed kills

knot even once
Kind of reminds me of a plot from one of those horror manga things.
This plant is more bizzare than what this guy did. My parents were looking to buy a place in Wales and found a derelict cottage in need of renovation. It had a really low price because it was surrounded by this stuff but feeling brave we went to look at it anyway and were swiftly educated as to why the price was so low. It had grown in and out of EVERY wall, torn the plaster off most of the interior, popped windows out of frames and even brought down an entire room at the back of the house. Apparently the council weren't letting anyone try to remove it either because it had grown over such a large area that burning it down would have created a serious environmental hazard, this stuff is scary.

You've never heard of a murder suicide before?
Afaik there's a law in the UK that requires you to register spottings of said knotweed with the officials
This stuff does not come out.
It will grow back faster than hair.
You've never heard of a murder suicide before?
It usually has a hyphen.

They basically treat it like a biohazard. You even have to bring it to a specified waste treatment designation. That's incredible.
You guys laugh but it used to be introduced into the UK as a gift offering and ever since then it just has not stopped spreading and killing the natural vegetation

the weed was growing from a nearby golf course and was going to make his house unsellable, so he started cutting it down, which turned out to be illegal. after a bunch of legal battles that failed badly, and with no other option, he decided to kill himself, and then realized that his wife would be alone and without income afterwards. so then he killed her to rather than have her suffer through that, then killed himself several days later.
Weed: not even once.
This stuff grows in vancouver, had it at the bottom of my yard untill I ripped every single strand out daily as it grew untill I killed it good.
