Television images showed the moment when the bull's left horn ripped into Juan Jose Padilla's lower jaw to emerge beside his protruding eyeball.
Padilla was pinned to the ground by the 508kg (1,120lb) animal and was only saved when the bull was distracted by bullring assistants in the city of Zaragoza.
The footage shows the 39-year-old getting up from the ring with blood gushing from his face saying: "I can't see, I can't see anything."
The matador suffered eye, bone, muscle and skin damage and has undergone a five-hour operation at a nearby hospital.

The bull, named Marques, was the second beast he had fought during the day.
Doctors Simon Sanz and Nadal Cristobal said surgeons used titanium plates and mesh to reconstruct parts of Padilla's facial bone structure and eye socket.
A hospital spokesman said surgeons had tried to reconstruct the bullfighter's left ocular nerve. He did not say if it had been a success.
But Vicente Yesteras, one of Padilla's bullring helpers, said the matador was lucky the bull's horn had not gone into his brain.[/quote]

While I respect your opinions about bullfighting, I don't really see why the poor man deserved this. A lot of the people that you see bullfighting can't do anything else, their father did it before them, and their father, and so on. It's how they earn their living.

Good. I'm glad. Usually I'm on the human's side when it comes to human rights versus animal rights, but in the case of killing animals for fun or making animals fight for sport, I'm totally against it. I'm all for animal research, tests being done on animals and whatever, but not bullfighting or anything similar.

I think it has been stopped but not made illegal, as it was just in the north of spain, not the whole country afaik

While I personally am terrified of driving because of the dangers surrounding it and my own inexperience, I know most people are trained and capable of driving. Driving can be dangerous, but the point is that people know what they're doing enough in most situations to be able to handle it safely.

And I don't know about where you're from but around here we don't wait until they're mature enough. We start them off at 14. Which is honestly 3-4 years too young in my opinion.
