http://news.sky.com/home/world-news/article/16085191 A Spanish bullfighter is recovering from surgery after he was gored through the jaw and eye in front of horrified spectators. Television images showed the moment when the bull's left horn ripped into Juan Jose Padilla's lower jaw to emerge beside his protruding eyeball. Padilla was pinned to the ground by the 508kg (1,120lb) animal and was only saved when the bull was distracted by bullring assistants in the city of Zaragoza. The footage shows the 39-year-old getting up from the ring with blood gushing from his face saying: "I can't see, I can't see anything." The matador suffered eye, bone, muscle and skin damage and has undergone a five-hour operation at a nearby hospital. The bull, named Marques, was the second beast he had fought during the day. Doctors Simon Sanz and Nadal Cristobal said surgeons used titanium plates and mesh to reconstruct parts of Padilla's facial bone structure and eye socket. A hospital spokesman said surgeons had tried to reconstruct the bullfighter's left ocular nerve. He did not say if it had been a success. But Vicente Yesteras, one of Padilla's bullring helpers, said the matador was lucky the bull's horn had not gone into his brain.
I really disprove of bullfighting, mostly because of what happens to the bulls, but also for when this sort of thing happens, it's horrible.. [editline]a[/editline] for anyone who cares to see: here's a link to the goring, it's really quite graphic, it begins at 4.25
He is lucky to survive, that must have hurt like hell.
Aw man thats just bullshit, probably hurts like heck
Where's the video?!
Approximately nobody should be surprised that this happened.
No sympathies from me. He knew what he was getting into. It's honestly fair, considering he was trying to kill the bull and for once the bull got the better end of the stick. Good show.
I'd almost go 'yay bull' but losing an eye is still harsh as hell. Still no sympathy though, dude knew the risks.

The bull isn't supposed to have any part of the stick.
Where's the video?!
it's in the op, but here
While I respect your opinions about bullfighting, I don't really see why the poor man deserved this. A lot of the people that you see bullfighting can't do anything else, their father did it before them, and their father, and so on. It's how they earn their living.
Reminds me of Phineas Gage :v:

Good. I'm glad. Usually I'm on the human's side when it comes to human rights versus animal rights, but in the case of killing animals for fun or making animals fight for sport, I'm totally against it. I'm all for animal research, tests being done on animals and whatever, but not bullfighting or anything similar. Besides, I thought bullfighting was outlawed recently?
:damn:
Yeah, it sucks for him, but when you enter an arena with a angry bull whose single goal is to fuck your shit up, you know the risk.
so you don't feel bad for people who die in car crashes because they understand the risks of driving?
Is driving an inherently dangerous activity? No. These people willingly fight some of the angriest animals in the world with nothing to defend themselves with, that's like walking through Africa butt-naked while wearing a giant neon sign saying 'I hate niggers'.

Good lord. When I saw the video, and I saw him get gored, I had no idea it'd actually occurred because it had zoomed out, but then it showed the closeup of his face.
These people willingly fight some of the angriest animals in the world with nothing to defend themselves with,
This just in: Hippo fighting is all the rage

To the untrained driving is an inherently dangerous activity. If it wasn't inherently dangerous there'd be no need to wait until a person is mature enough to begin the weeks long process of teaching someone how to competently drive.
http://larrybrownsports.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/juan-jose-padilla-eye.jpg guy got fucked up http://www.as.com/recorte/20111007dasdastor_2/LCO/Ies/Padilla_gravisima_cornada_cara.jpg
This is the first time in a while in where I've been shocked by a picture.
Sitting inside thousands of pounds of steel, combustible gas and glass, going as high as 120 miles per hour with the only thing between you and crashing is a foot or two to the left or right? If it wasn't inherently dangerous there'd be no need to wait until a person is mature enough to begin the weeks long process of teaching someone how to competently drive.
While I personally am terrified of driving because of the dangers surrounding it and my own inexperience, I know most people are trained and capable of driving. Driving can be dangerous, but the point is that people know what they're doing enough in most situations to be able to handle it safely. And I don't know about where you're from but around here we don't wait until they're mature enough. We start them off at 14. Which is honestly 3-4 years too young in my opinion. Yea, sure, driving is dangerous, but you don't get into the car thinking "Let's create a spectacle by doing something dangerous on purpose." Unless you're talking about like racing, at which point you're right. I don't know any other situation when someone would go 120 mph normally anyhow, unless you're a complete fucktard.
That's what he gets.

He deserved it, afterall he knew about all the risks, in the arena its still an eye for an eye.
