I don't understand what a big rig with a jet engine on it has to do with aviation besides the jet engine being designed for an airplane. Sure, it's cool, but I'd much rather see an F35 demo in its place.

It's all shock and awe, the kids love to see stuff like that, so simple they can understand it. As far as i know the f-35 is too new to be used as well as the osprey too dangerous for public activity.
There's an airshow here in Camarillo (about 5 hours up the coast from san diego), that is smaller yet still fun to watch.
It's awesome what some pilots can do
