The committee, presided by Professor Dr Farooq Hamada, said: “Protecting life against all possible dangers and keeping it safe is an issue agreed upon by all religions and is clearly stipulated in verse 4/29 of the Holy Quran: Do not kill yourselves or one another. Indeed, Allah is to you ever Merciful.” Late in April 2013, Mars One, a Dutch company, invited volunteers to fly and live on the Red Planet, but there is no technology so far that would enable a return trip from Mars to Earth. The company is planning the first such trip to Mars in 2023 and another crew every two years afterwards with the goal of establishing a permanent human colony.
Figures.
Islam should prohibit people from blowing themselves up then.
Well shit guys, We'll just have to cancel our inter-planetary expansion plans because my imaginary friend says so.
Idiots.
“There is a possibility that an individual who travels to planet Mars may not be able to remain alive there, and is more vulnerable to death.”
you could say the same thing about individuals who go to the UAE
Muslims can't into space
They can't stop us
I got a bit worried while looking at the title but then I read the last part
that's great, now go back to stoning rape victims you hypocrites.
Islamists arguing against suicide missions? [editline]21st February 2014[/editline]
Islam should prohibit people from blowing themselves up then.
sup
Islam should prohibit people from blowing themselves up then.
good thing it already is [editline]21st February 2014[/editline]
Whoever opts for this “hazardous trip”, the committee said, is likely to perish for no “righteous reason”, and thus will be liable to a “punishment similar to that of suicide in the Hereafter”.
p sure that's not how suicide works
"wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh wahhhhhhhhhhhh" -The General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowment
its just dumb, so many things could be considered suicide well at least the Martians wont have to deal with crazy muslims when we have first contact
They're just mad since they can't do it.
We'll just go to Venus instead.
Is it really suicide if your name lives forever?
They just mad they weren't invited.
To be honest Mars One specifically is either a hoax or a suicide mission.
The irony hurts. On a serious note, they aren't really committing suicide so much as they are pioneers to a new frontier. Pretty sure they'll be remembered as Martyrs, which those Islamic peeps are all about nowadays.
Sometimes success comes with sacrifices, every second you live, you are closer to death. The argument is pretty much void, anyone should be able to choose in freedom before the inevitable happens.
To be honest Mars One specifically is either a hoax or a suicide mission.
No it's just a nearly credential-less, overly ambitious space program. As far as I can tell they're really just hoping a person, group, corporation, or government possessing the capability to go to Mars 9 times in a row will pick up their project.
Sometimes success comes with sacrifices, every second you live, you are closer to death. The argument is pretty much void, anyone should be able to choose in freedom before the inevitable happens.
Thank you for quoting an actual quote from the Quran. Seriously people, read your own fucking book before you make bullshit statements about how the pinnacle of human achievement is taboo because some asshole says that it's wrong because "infidels" are doing it.
To be honest Mars One specifically is either a hoax or a suicide mission.
And that's what they're complaining about. They're saying that it's so stupid that any Muslim who went along has effectively committed suicide for no good reason. TBH, they have a point. I hope someone shuts down that shitshow, because I'm not looking forward to hearing about the Donner Party In Space and having that specter hanging over crewed spaceflight for the next few decades.
To be honest Mars One specifically is either a hoax or a suicide mission.
and Haram!
And literally nobody cares. Religion will not hold back humanity again, I'd give my life just to keep religion in the background, as insignificant as it can possibly be. we don't need it, we need to come together as a species and up funding for science and our space programs.
Muslims can't into space
we can't either ;(
Thanks to the absence of space Muslims, space Jews (alt. spews, outer Jews, astro-yids or cosmosemites) are now able to colonize space.
Muslims can't go to Mars. Even more reason to go to Mars now, virtually no risk of getting killed by extremists. what it's true
Well then I guess Muslims will have to miss out on the next great step in human exploration. Personally I thought they'd be concerned since it'd be difficult to locate Mecca from Mars, but then again surely you'd be able to face Mecca by just looking for Holy Terra in the night sky. That said dust storms may be a problem in terms of looking for Mecca through a telescope.
"no righteous reason"? What more righteous cause could there be than the expansion and betterment of mankind? Earth can only support us for so long. A few centuries more, a few millenia, eventually the resources needed to keep our society in motion will run out. If we're still stuck groundside when that happens, our descendants won't be able to escape the inevitable collapse of our sun into a red giant. We need to move. We need to seek out new resources and living spaces, we need to plant our flags on the stars and call them our own. We need to get off this damn planet, before it becomes our tomb.
