A Utah lawmaker who succeeded in having pornography declared a public health crisis intends to continue his crusade through a bill that could require porn filters to be placed on the Internet.

Republican Sen. Todd Weiler said his resolution declaring pornography a public health crisis, which sailed through the 2016 session, was only the first step. He plans to introduce at least three new proposals next session including one that could require Internet service providers add filters so everyone in Utah has to opt-in to view pornography.
lmao good luck, I'd love to see you even try

you're not btw, just saying, you don't know shit mate
Some key Utah officials, including Gov. Gary Herbert, have spoken out against pornography, calling it such things as a plague, pandemic and scourge that warps children's minds, threatens marriages and contributes to sexual violence
Where the fuck are they coming up with this garbage?

You heard it from Gay Herb guys
porn makes you a rapist
"How ludicrous is it that a 16-year old-kid can't go see Fifty Shades of Grey, but as they're walking back to their car, they can pull an Apple IPhone 6 out of their pocket and they can watch hardcore graphic videos on their phone," Weiler said.
idk, how rediculous is it that a 16 year old couldn't go into a strip club in the olden days, but could pickup any of the dozen porno mags sold in your local grocery store, convenience stores, news stands, or any place that sold print media
Can't we all just be moderates?
This is doubly funny since Utah has the highest rates of paid porn website subscriptions of any state. I believe an article was posted about it on here last year.

What did porn do to this guy? Did it kill his family?
It would piss me off immensely if a bunch of idiots wanted my sexuality to be dictated by some fucking creation myth from the bronze-age. So have my sympathies americans.

Nah, just left a mess is all.
The idea for adding filters in libraries came in part after a mother contacted Weiler about her teenage son who said he can't see porn on his home computer so he goes to the library to access it.
i can 100% guarantee this person is a moron for believing this, sure he tells her its not on his computer...
that or hes a fucking moron who can't get past a simple parental filter
[editline]23rd May 2016[/editline]
Weiler said his other two bills would help to restrict kids' access to pornography by adding filters on IPhones and tablets,
(i'm pretty sure apple already has parental controls on iphones and tablets.....)

Orrr you could just not watch it and tell your kids that it's something they'll eventually learn about as adults/teenagers.
But being a fucking parent is too hard nowadays, fuck that. Let's just let the government do it for us.
Fucking christ.

This is like stuff one would say as a joke, like how rock & roll is the devil's music or the gays are poisoning our drinking water. Except these people are completely fucking serious.
I mean, pornography is an awful industry, and it can perpetuate sexual violence with it legitimizing women as sexual prey. Many pornstars are forced into the industry or horribly treated and disorganized. That being said, it's hardly an act that should be outright banned. We need to be agitating how it affects sexual health and gender roles in society, not trying to completely ban it imo. These bans aren't in the interest of gender and sexual liberation, these are outright attempts to enforce a religious doctrine.

They think that knowing about sex is something that can be prevented and that by controlling the presentation of sex to be limited as only between what they consider to be the ideal participants under ideal circumstances (a man and a woman who are married, trying to make a baby) that they can make a homogeneous society of castrated, pious sheep.
The biggest problem is that they are looking at the problem backwards. They think that seeking and viewing pornography is causing the problems in their state when in fact the high percentage of porn viewership represents exactly how sexually repressed the people of their state are. The religious 'monopoly' exerts a massive amount of social pressure on individuals which causes behaviors characteristic of severe sexual repression. Making it harder to access pornography will only make the problem worse as hundreds of thousands of severely sexually repressed individuals suddenly find themselves without an outlet to their deeply internalized 'perversions' that they have been indoctrinated to believe are a just cause to be made into a social pariah.
There could very well be an epidemic of sexual deviancy in Utah if this goes down in accordance to the worst-case-scenario for how a government can completely ignore decades of psychological research and do 'whatever they think their god thinks should be done.'
Speaking as a native Utahn I am ashamed of the amount of ignorance Herbert has shown throughout this whole proposal. Not only is the technology not really there to effectively bar people from viewing this content, but the general consensus among those not in the church is that this problem is church-specific. You hardly ever hear about some of the deviants that are exposed outside the state, but the church elders and members of the Mormon church that actively oppress these things are the ones that end up being the worst and most sexually aggressive.
This type of legislation is exactly why nobody can take us seriously and it really sucks because this is a great place once you get away from the church. There is no denying that pornography can be harmful in excess but it shouldn't be so heavily regulated.
probably secretly has a stash of pornographic photos for himself
Utah is the no fun allowed state, at least from all the ones I've been to

But they could very well just watch Fifty Shades of Grey on their phone if they wanted to...
I bet he just want's to hoard all the porno for himself, especially all the extra kinky shit.
I'm onto you, cunt.
Glad to know that Cameron's government is finally inspiring other countries to take bold steps.
I mean, pornography is an awful industry, and it can perpetuate sexual violence with it legitimizing women as sexual prey.
I can't fathom how you could come to such a crazy conclusion
I will say that too much porn can become an unhealthy habit, one which teenagers certainly are unprepared for. There's so much of it with barely any restrictions; discovering this stuff is a vital part of puberty but we do have to be careful that it doesn't lead to unrealistic expectations, obsessions or anything else unhealthy.
Obviously the solution to this isn't to prohibit porn altogether, if history has taught is anything, it's that taking things away completely just makes people want them more. Just have proper sex education classes, teach kids not to sit around jacking it all day, they probably still will because they're teenagers, but perhaps if they knew they were desensitising themselves for actual sex, they'd know to cut down before becoming sexually active and have healthier sex lives for it.

codeword for "welcome to our list of potential perverts and pedophiles"
What we have here, ladies and gentlemen, is one of the world's most embarrassingly public cases of penis envy. God, you must need a microscope to see his.
Not like he can compete with the Saudi government, but dammit, he's trying.

So, when's Hollytective going to make a set of rules porn has to follow so they can monopolize on it?
I mean, pornography is an awful industry, and it can perpetuate sexual violence with it legitimizing women as sexual prey
So's the current pop music industry (like that time Mick Jagger's Johnny Bravo kept a sex slave, or the "Alien Rape Fantasy" song) hell even literary pornography['s corruptness of youth] is worse than internet (50 Shades or How I Learned About Pseudo-BSDM and Became Edward Cullen's Bitch) pornography... unless it's an actual photo, it gets complicated there. Most internet pornography artists don't bring their "lewd" side to places it isn't welcome, whereas just about every other form of pornography jumps onto your face trying to get you to choke on it.
