Sydneysiders have woken to a red haze unlike anything seen before by residents or weather experts, as the sun struggles to pierce a thick blanket of dust cloaking the city this morning.
"The reason for the dust is we had some really strong winds in the inland areas of NSW and in South Australia for a sustained period yesterday," said Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Jane Golding."
I'm right in the middle of it at the moment, I've never seen anything like it in my life. Does this happen commonly in other parts of the world? I'm interested. :aaaaa:

No it does not happen in Finland that's for sure.
That's fucking eerie
Scary
Last picture looks like a screenshot from Left 4 Dead.
Also, did it get into your house? If not, did it, like, pour in when you opened the door?
That looks fucking awesome in my opinion.
can't tel if that's awesome or scary.
what map is that
Dude thats badass. Get pictures for yourself while it lasts.
First picture is just... wow.
Let's quarantine Sydney until we are sure it doesn't make you a zombie!
Holy crap! So the apocalypse is starting down there!
is it hard to breathe?
Fuck, these guys report fast. I live in Sydney and i'll tell you what happened. I woke up about 1hr and a half ago, and my bed is facing the wall, so I open my eyes and look at the wall, and it's glowing red. I'm like "what the hell" I turn around and the whole fucking sky is as red as hell and I'm like HOLY SHIT. No idea how this happened, but it's 8am and now it's very yellow, but not red. It really was as intense as the pictures in the OP. Scary stuff.
Purple Haze comes next.
I just went outside and all this dust came up my nose D: i cant stop sneezeing
-snip-, I'm wrong the air is fucked
It's now sorta like a pinky salmony kinda colour.

Although the sunlight isn't getting through completely, it's turning the red sky yellowish, but the dust is still there.
Fucking vampires are gonna show up and rape australia

Jesus christ.
I woke up at 6am when it was at its worst (like in first pic) and my entire room was all red and fucked up. I thought I was still dreaming about L4D2 but I wasn't. I walk out on my balcony, rub my finger across the little table that's there, and get a thick coat of red dust on my finger. I walk outside, look around, and walk back in, and there's a coat of red dust on my feet.
Don't be retarded, this isn't freakish weather. It's a dust storm. This shit happens all the time in Western Australia and Victoria.
My white 4WD is no longer.....
I really should've taken some pictures when I woke up.
It's yellow-orange now :P
I like the atmosphere it gives actually.
I like the red much better. Way more intense.

Yeah well no one knows or cares about Victoria and WA. When it affects like 90% of Australia, then it's news.
I think with freakish weather was that there has been, hail in South Australia, 2 earthquakes in Victoria and Bushfires in Queensland then the Dust Storm in NSW.
