Ghostbusters: The REAL Reasons for the Backlash and Controversy

I haven't seen this posted and since it's part of an ongoing series I thought it would be of importance.

It really bothers me how a lot of film critics I enjoy really took the "oh it's misogyny" bait when it comes to this movie. It's a terrible looking film that got a lot of bad press, then had the audacity to blame the audience for having sexist views, and as a result got more backlash than they ever could have imagined.
Been saying for years Sony need to get rid of Amy Pascal, she's such a fucking idiot.

Its a paid marketing ploy by Sony to try and cover up the fact noone wants this piece of shit movie to succeed, the cast are bad not because they're women just because they're fucking awful, and the movie has fucking shit direction and is a piss stain on the originals, the director does not understand why the original worked so well, the cast had chemistry and there was a real substance in what story and theme revolved around, this new one just looks like an attempt to pander and make a quick buck.
In addition to all the it looks really bad and stuff, I actually think it's kinda sexist too. Like how is making a movie's gimmick that it has female leads not sexist? Then there's the whole genius scientist white women plus a shouty black women that's from 'the block' and has an uncle with a car.
Something that I'll repeat from an earlier thread:
Let these people's careers rot and never let them into the industry ever again.
Not referring to the cast but the producers of the film itself.
Paul Feig is shaping up to be this laughing stock of a human being in the film industry and for very good reason, Amy Pascall shouldn't be exempt from this shitshow either since she had a direct hand in it. Sympathy towards not only the original's cast but the one here as well what with the shit they both had to deal with during production. It's becoming clear that the latter are fully regretting to be in this whole thing.
I wouldn't call it sexist against women but it really does seem like it's exploiting women and feminism to get views. Businesses aren't really good or evil, and they probably just saw a chance. Because otherwise, this movie has no reason to exist. They aren't really changing up anything, and it's not like the old ghostbusters is so dated that it ought to be remade for a modern audience.
I think one of the big problems with the public reaction to Ghostbusters is that there's all the people who wanted a good ghostbusters movie and they're getting this shit but they're surrounded by a giant horde of bandwagoners who just saw the negative reaction and want to get in on it and choose "DEM SJWS" as their platform for disliking the movie giving Sony the wrong idea about why their movie is going to be horrible.

There are plenty of reasons to hate this movie. If you're a ghostbusters fan and wanted a good movie, it failed. If you aren't a fan, it's still a bad movie on its own. It is filled witch cliches and stereotypes that can be offensive to quite some people. And the gimmick of "liberal female centric movie" goes against the whole idea of feminism. The movie effectively pisses off both sides of the crowd. It does no service to either ghostbusters or the movement.

It's the ultimate shield against failure.
"Ghostbusters movie bombs in box office" - All of those misogynists didn't go to see the movie and convinced their friends it was garbage
"Critics pan new ghostbusters movie" - Those critics must be misogynist!
etc.
am i the only one who's fucking sick and tired of this uuu muh misogyiny crap? because its fucking ruining everything
Liana K also recently made a video that mirrors the same sentiment regarding rebooting the franchise instead of making a sequel:
Personally I think that's the single most insane thing about all of this. Unlike with super hero movies (and even there it's a bit of a stretch), there's absolutely no reason you can't introduce a new cast in the same universe. In this particular case, it even really lends itself to that as the game shows.

Well what do you expect when jobs are on the line? You expect them to actually take responsibility for THEIR own fuck ups?
Nobody, fucking NOBODY wanted this movie made. As the video stated, a "passing of the torch" movie would have been perfectly acceptable. It would have been a great way to introduce the female cast (or any cast for that matter, yay diversity!) without trampling on the original movie which is EVERYONE's big issue with this. Its not a sequel, its a fucking remake/reboot. It pisses me off because in the original trailer they DO reference the original....but then completely go off the rails and do their own shit.
THAT is what everyone is pissed about. Plus all the rumors circulating that they had to legally strong arm the original team to make cameos in the movie.
But yep, so much easier to just blame your audience for "not getting your vision" when the audience never asked for any of this shit. I went from not wanting to see the movie, to actively hoping it fails because of these shitheads. And when the people in charge line up for the chopping block, I'm going to laugh. Anyone who has the gall to blame their audience, especially when its not their fault, does NOT deserve their fucking job.
The irony is by going "lol look at us we're totally all female, yay we rock we don't need no men!" they have created a sort of reverse psychology form of sexism only this time men are getting fucked over, i don't mind an all female cast if it serves a point, if the original ghost busters all had daughters i'd get with that, but just making it all female because the directors like "woo go women because i grew up a feminist!" he in turn is making it role reversed sexist, see why the fuck couldn't they have just split it evenly? heck they could have even as the video said passed the torch, why didn't Oscar grow up to be a scientist and lead the new generation of Ghostbusters for example.
I'm all for "equality" in the movie industry, but this isn't the way to do it. It really isn't.
Look to movies like Fury Road if you want to see how it's done right.

Well the problem is there are still a ton of very openly misogynistic people, and the term has become so washed out that every time it's used legitimately people cry foul. It's one of the many terms that have become very vitrolic for no substantial reason other than perhaps overuse, just like 'toxic', 'safe space', 'marginalized', and everything regarding triggers and trigger warnings.
Now, in regards to this Ghostbusters film, I feel like there definitely are some people that dislike it for misogynistic reasons but I think there are definitely a lot of legitimate grievances with the film that can't be discounted and discarded because the film is rallying behind its 'girl power' mantra. Personally, I enjoy the cast and I'll reserve judgement until reviews start coming in, but I'm not too optimistic.

Fury road was absolutely excellent, it should be a standard setter in Hollywood for sure.

Would Pacific Rim count too, albeit a cheesy example? I mean the protagonist Raleigh can't pilot Gipsy Danger alone without dying, and the co-pilot Mako is "drift compatible" with him. She also fights, managing to kill two-three of the toughest Kaiju in the entire film. Then there's the Russian couple [sp]that died[/sp] defending Hong Kong...

The common element between these movies is that they're just movies that happen to have female main characters.
That's the ideal, a world where you can just tell stories with female and Asian and black main characters. Not a world where everything is about grrl power and where attention is constantly called to people's gender or race.
The most important thing about a character should be who they are, not what they are.
what matters is good writing. everything else is secondary.
this reboot clearly has none of that.

Whoops, read that as "what am i looking at in this picture".
The kid in the back is pretty much the focus of the whole thing. Don't see any other relevance besides 4chan predicting the movie would be shit from day one and to make a callback to a previous joke.
There making a tv show http://ca.ign.com/articles/2016/06/20/sony-pictures-announces-ghostbusters-animated-tv-series
Ivan Retitman is involved so there is a little bit of faith in the project

To be fair Greg Miller started working on Fury Road in the 90's and had decades worth of concepts and re-writes under his belt.
If it's based on the real ghostbusters, there's hope.
