It's not as tangible a threat as demons, liches or dragons, so I can see why people think this extension is kind of an anticlimax.

Pandas have been in Warcraft lore since WCIII.
Also, people said the same damn thing about the Draenei, who are a race of blue space goats.
Pandarens have been in the Warcraft universe for quite a while, so they're nothing new.
