• In wake of the government shutdown fiasco, Congressional Republicans are finding unity
Washington (CNN) -- In a large conference-style room in the basement of the U.S. Capitol, Republican members of the House, exhausted from more than two weeks of battling on the shutdown and debt ceiling crisis, met for one last time. They met in a room that had often been filled with contentious debate, snickering rebels, quiet observers and frustrated moderators. But on the night the House voted to reopen the government, the mood was different. They knew it was over. They could fight no more. They had lost. But, even in defeat, many who were in the room say there was a surprising feeling of unity. On that night, 16 days into their failed strategy, the diverse group of Republicans who have had sharp differences on how to push a Republican agenda in a Democratic led government stood as one. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Virginia, spoke passionately in the GOP conference room, urging his members to unify. And it worked. Embattled Speaker of the House John Boehner received a standing ovation. The unusual plea for unity was a recognition that the last few weeks had been, to say the least, bruising for the GOP. The government shutdown exposed major divisions in the party. During the summer, the far right tea party wing had backed Boehner into a corner by demanding he link defunding the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, to the shutdown and debt ceiling. Meanwhile, what was left of the Republican moderates in the House and Senate -- in fact much of the more realistic GOP center -- had privately thought the tactic would lead to political disaster. Obama may have won now, but the next three years could be tough And they ended up being right. "I think we have fully now acquainted our new members with what a losing strategy that is," Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky told The Hill.
http://www.cnn.com/2013/10/18/politics/gop-path-ahead/index.html?hpt=po_c1

..so does this now mean that they're going to work together to run the united states into the ground?
Hopefully this means that from this point forward, that majority of GOP members who are more moderate will now take center stage rather than the Tea Party loons.
yeah okay sure they have mainstream republicans totally forgive tea party for fucking them over sure this is just a ploy to try to save their image and mask the wrinkles the only thing that could unify the Republicans at this point is Tea Party learning their place from the whole ordeal and stopping the renegade bullshit (which I am almost certain won't happen)

needs a new party. should call it, "The Brotherhood"
A hilariously massive number of them still voted to ruin the country and fuck up everything forever and ever. They found so much unity and realized they lost so much that the majority of them still voted against it and still tried to break everything.
The US is still fucked lol
..so does this now mean that they're going to work together to run the united states into the ground?
"Alone we are powerless. But together, together we are merely incompetent."
Washington (CNN) -- In a large conference-style room in the basement of the U.S. Capitol, Republican members of the House, exhausted from more than two weeks of battling on the shutdown and debt ceiling crisis, met for one last time.
[t]http://www.faqs.org/espionage/images/eeis_02_img0698.jpg[/t] did anyone else think of this when they read this? in all seriousness, most of the tea partiers have never served any time in any political positions, thats what lead us to this point, immovable, ignorant, inexperienced idiots driving the party towards destruction because they are pissed that a black man wants to give everyone healthcare. beohner had tried to hold them togather for like 4-5 of these shutdown threats, but it seems like now that they have lost they can now shut the fuck up and sit in the corner and let the real politicians do their jobs and maybe the tea partiers might get re-elected if they behave [editline]19th October 2013[/editline] it was only the tea partiers who were sitting there saying "hey a default will be a good thing for the U.S. and the world" these guys would probably also say mutual assured destruction and hundreds of nuclear weapons on both sides of the world pointed at each other is a safe, perfect strategy for world peace.
If you are a active reader of SH you may have read some of my stories about my grandfather, if not and you are interested check my recent posts. He now says that he hopes every man woman and child in the world dies because "the world" is too "stupid to figure it out" By the world he means the US, he is incapable of separating those two ideas. by figure it out, he means do things the way he would, in the 60's. He was visibly upset for almost a full day after they averted the default, he just wanted it to happen so badly so we could "get back to the golden age of america with republicans running the government" Between him and you guys it's like watching some fucked up soap opera where everyone is too fuckign stupid to figure out that they are the punchline of a global joke. None of you, not him, nor you guys have any effect on what happens. The politicians and other people who are running our world couldn't give any less of a shit about you if they tried. But you could show evidence for days about how fucked up they are and all you would ever do is say "REPUBLICANS ARE THE FUCKING PROBLEM" and all people like my grandad would ever do is say "LIBERALS ARE THE FUCKING PROBLEM" I really don't want to live on this planet any more. Just like anything the republicans ever did this healthcare thing is a gigantic fucking scam. A way to funnel even more money into their businesses and their families and their friends. I love the idea of healthcare for the poor, but that doesnt mean that ill become so indoctrinated that I would blindly support something like you guys do. Mark my words, this healthcare thing is going to turn into a nightmare of "prefered contracts" and other such bullshit.
My response would be "After you grandpa."
I would love to but he holds my living situation over my head like an anvil in a bugs bunny cartoon. I love the man, he is generous, but he is so fucking delusional it's not funny. He will literally kick me and my son and wife to the street if I vote democrat on anything. I'm not exaggerating even a little bit, it almost happened twice already just for talking about things like open source software and how healthcare should not be privatized the way it is now. There's no middle ground with him, either you shut up listen and agree, or he removes you from his life.

Frankly as far as I can tell it seems the US is literally ran by a gaggle of retards.
needs a new party. should call it, "The Brotherhood"
And the party leader is some bald guy who's simply known as Kane

"liberals" aren't the ones who held the world economy hostage for a week, and even if they somehow were (they weren't) the democrats sure as fuck aren't part of some universal world cabal of them. the Republican party is an actual THING - just anyone your insane granddad ascribes the vague, probably incorrect term "liberal" to is not and never has been capable of running the United States and the world economy into the ground. please don't act like someone who wants a political party that isn't evil or incompetent is somehow wrong for criticizing the ones that are. vote for a third party next time if you want, but staying impartial between Democrats and Republicans is just a waste of time and brainpower.

Your thoughts, no matter how original they seem, are only what they are because someone wanted them to be. They let the ebb and flow of red and blue keep everyone busy while they plunder your lifes work behind you. They seem good, but then so did Hitler. It's like the alliance vs the horde in WoW, everyone's fighting for glory for their side, but at the end of the day Blizzard owns them both, and profits off the work of both sides.
So Hitler did nothing wrong and the Allies are scumbags that ruined the world?
I too can neatly and aptly sum up the political system of an entire country with a WoW analogy.

I'm just saying, doesn't it seem strange to you that the power shifts back and forth, and everyone has the right answers and yet shit is just getting worse and worse. More money than ever going in from taxes, worse quality education, highest lotteries ever, crumbling infrastructure, none of it makes any sense.

If so, I have some revolutionary new currency to sell you.
That is literally like opening up a broken engine and going "GASOLINE COMES IN BUT DOESN'T COME OUT. NONE OF IT MAKES SENSE." Edit: Infact, the longer I sit here looking at it, the less sense it makes. Taxes are actually lower than they have ever been historically, education quality is hard to uniformly gauge believe it or not, I don't see what lotteries have to do with anything, and okay so the roads are broken therefor the world is being run by a Rothschild scam?
So Hitler did nothing wrong and the Allies are scumbags that ruined the world?
See how you just ignore how I said both sides are wrong and took it as if i was saying you are wrong? you sound just like my grandfather. You can't understand how someone could be against your side and not automatically be for the other side. You and everyone else it seems are vcompletley and totally brainwashed.

I would argue that America is doing better in 2013 than it did in 1993.
Must be personal bias then because everything I know is going to shit, and everyone I know agrees.
Must be personal bias then because everything I know is going to shit, and everyone I know agrees.
Based on what? Is the economy shrinking? Crime rates up? Are people dying more? I can certainly tell you that for LGBT people, things have immensely improved in the past 20 years. As for most indicators telling you shits going wrong? Well, people aren't murdering each other as much as they used to.
Must be personal bias then because everything I know is going to shit, and everyone I know agrees.
This is EXACTLY the type of thought you are accusing your grandfather and the posters of. I hope you are aware of the blistering irony.
