Israelis are preparing to go to the polls in a general election which looks set to return Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to office.
Campaigning in Jerusalem, Mr Netanyahu said the choice was between parties which would lead to "a divided and weak Israel or... united and strong Israel".
Analysts say Mr Netanyahu is likely to form a new right-wing coalition.
Unlike previous elections the Israeli-Palestinian peace process has not been high on most parties' campaign agendas.
Social and economic issues have emerged as key concerns among voters in the run-up to the polls.
According to final opinion polls, Mr Netanyahu's joint Likud-Yisrael Beitenu party list will win about 32 seats - down from the previous election but enough to form a majority with right-wing parties.
A right-wing bloc is expected to give Mr Netanyahu support of about 63 seats in the 120-member Knesset (parliament).
Mr Netanyahu called early elections last October after his coalition failed to agree the annual budget. His joint party ticket has consistently led opinion polls, but recently lost support to a new ultra-nationalist party, Bayit Yehudi (Jewish Home).
'Good feeling'
Speaking at his final campaign appearance, Mr Netanyahu said he was confident of a late surge in support.
"I have no doubt that many, many people will decide at the last minute come home to Likud-Yisrael Beitenu.
"I have a good feeling. And at the last minute, I appeal to each and every citizen going to the ballot box: Decide for whom you are going to vote - for a divided and weak Israel or for a united and strong Israel and a large governing party?"
Likud-Yisrael Beitenu's right-wing dominance has been challenged by Bayit Yehudi, led by US-born millionaire Naftali Bennett, Mr Netanyahu's former chief-of-staff.
Mr Bennett has advocated annexing large parts of the occupied West Bank and rejected the idea of a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestinian conflict.
Bayit Yehudi is forecast to take up to 14 seats and become the third-largest party in the Knesset.
The second-biggest party is expected to be Labour, currently languishing on eight seats but predicted to make a comeback with about 18 seats, due in large part to growing anger over the rising cost of living. Labour Party leader Shelly Yachimovich has ruled out joining a coalition led by Mr Netanyahu.
The new secular centrist party Yesh Atid (There is a Future), led by TV personality Yair Lapid, and centrist Hatenua, led by former Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, are also expected to do moderately well. Both leaders have said they would consider joining a Netanyahu-led government.
Wow fuck. Either way, they're both terrible zionists.

So the right's major challenger is someone who is even further to the right?

Aw fuck yeah! These guys seem pretty cool, I hope they get a few seats and th
In January 2013, just days before the election, Lapid said "I do not think that the Arabs want peace, I want to be rid of them and put a tall fence between us and them, to maintain a Jewish majority in the Land of Israel."
Fucks sake
Israel, quite literally the land of the retards.

This is what passes for centrism in Israel.
Seems like they are going to go even further right, take an even harder line with the Palestinians, and become even more internationally isolated. Any remaining support in Europe is probably going to wither away. Who knows about the US though

Let's just hope Obama does what's right and saves the day.

I hope whoever they elect is Jewish this time.

Netanyahu is Jewish?
I have no words for how stupid the average Israeli is if they vote for any of the right wing candidates.

The majority of them think the land is theirs and are ironically fascist. Their mandatory conscription for both sexes also encourages it.
The last time a leftist was elected he was killed by an israeli nutter.
I bet the winner is Jewish.
So there's something that I can't help but wonder:
Why do they need all of this new room to grow? Is the population of Israel increasing dramatically or something?

No real reason.
All Israel needs now is a small pencil moustache and the transformation into supervillain will be complete

It's a toothbrush, not pencil, god get it right!
big revenge boner, israel gets shat on for centuries, decides it to be a good idea to kill everyone else now that their dad (the us) backs them up in the schoolyard fight
It's not even Israel. The land wasn't even theirs and there wasn't even jews there, since they're a germanic people.
You realize Jews from all over the world immigrated to Palestine?
What you just said is like saying all Latin Americans are Mexicans.

And the majority of them are from middle / mideastern europe.
Just remember that not all Israeli politicians are like these two nutjobs. There are leftists who would prefer a two state solution, but they have recently been marginalized by the conservatives and super conservatives.
I still don't understand why politicians can be this stupid
but they have recently been marginalized by the conservatives and super conservatives.
Sounds like America
So who won?
Sounds like America
Obama is President, the Democrats have a majority in the Senate. The only reason our conservatives are so prevalent right now is because they're... crazier than usual. In Israel it seems like they ACTUALLY have a majority over there, which is scary.

jews aren't a germanic people wtf are you talking about. jews have been in israel/palestine/judea for centuries. there was a shit ton of fighting between zionists and arabs prior to israel being formed as a nation.
