I just bought a 1994 Ford Escort with 34,000 miles on it, not much because of being in a barn for a few years.
Before I start using it full time is there anything I need to look at, check for, or work on? It started on the first day I got it so I know that all works for the time being.
It had a bunch of crap that fell out of a tree that it was sitting under I got that all vacuumed up. I'm going to take it to get a new timing belt withing the next week, is there something else that needs a look at?
Check the breaks.
Nice, congrats.

Why am I being rated dumb? I'm not being sarcastic. The '94 Escort is a nice car. :smith:
change all the fluids

watch out for snakes too i hate those little fuckers
I know in old cars you change the points on the distributors, but I don't know how far that goes. I'd say spark plugs, but that's only for high mile'd cars... Tires?
tires are a must yes, even if they still have a lot of tread left they are probably dryrotted if it sat long.
uncle bought a skylark that sat around for about 6 years and he thought he was good but all the tires blew out the 2nd time he drove it :v:
Turn it into an Euro Rat Rod :q:

for sure I can do tires, this escort is replacing a VW jetta that's having major problems (Water getting into the oil and brakes going out at the same time) after 159,000 miles. The tires seem fine though and they're the same size

dude this escort is a sedan, there's definitely no taking "soccer mom" out of the design. I miss my jetta :(

Oh come on, look at that bimmer, it's not even a coupe and look how badass it looks!
Mag wheels, stereo, subs, body kit and spoiler.
You'll be set! :v:
94 isn't that old :colbert:
You should probably get an oil change and transmission fluid change. I would also replace the rotors, brakes, fuel and oil filters unless you feel they're in good shape. Getting an alignment and possibly replacing the shocks and springs isn't a bad idea. You can replace the tires also depending on the condition. Make sure all the cylinders are firing, there's the possibility that a coil pack could be bad or a fuel injector could be gummed up.
Off topic question.
90's eu escorts are rust buckets, do us versions tend to rust alot to? just curious.
you really shouldnt even be starting it without a new timing belt
also the petrol is probably fucked
whatever you do don't "pimp" it out with paper-mâché fenders and an obnoxious paintjob.
At least do a basic tune-up, and also be sure to check all the lights, and buy 1 spare of every different type external light and keep it in your glovebox or something, so if a cop pulls you over for a burnt-out tail-light, you can fix it right then.
Also, 1994 isn't even that old. My 1972 Olds Cutlass S is much older.

You cant just swap tires afaik, they need to be balanced to the car
What you have to check:
Brakes,
Cooler Liquid,
Oil,
Air pressure in Tires,
and let your Timing belt check
If thats all okay you might wanna go wash and polish your car
Clean it up good and proper, don't stick any tat to it and treat it like it's your own fucking daughter.
One of my mates had something similar, he bought a 89 fiesta that had been sat in some old womans garage, had 40k miles on it! The interior was absolutely mint as was the paint.

Well how longs it been sat there? Petrol goes funny and loses its octane rating after a bit, you may as well stick clean stuff in?
