During Memorial Day weekend, McMillian was rough-housing with another teenager on the sand. Police approached the teen on an ATV and told him that wasn't acceptable behavior. They asked him where his parents were, but MicMillian attempted to walk away. The officer jumped off the ATV, and tried to physically restrain the teen. According to CBS Miami, police say the 14-year-old kid gave them "'dehumanizing stares,' clenched his fists and appeared threatening."
McMillian says he was carrying a six-week old puppy at the time and couldn't have been clenching his fists because he was feeding the dog with a bottle. He claims that during the confrontation the dog's front left paw was injured while officer forcibly separated him from the dog.
The officer then forced McMillian to the ground and put him in a choke hold.

Miami-Dade Police Detective Alvaro Zabaleta told CBS Miami that McMillian tried to pull away, so that constituted a "threat." The teen was charged with a felony count of resisting arrest with violence and disorderly conduct. Zabaleta claims with a straight face that flailing one's arms and clenching one's fists constitutes a threat, and is not swayed by McMillian's insistence that all he was doing with his arms was carrying a puppy.

Fourteen-year-old Tremaine McMillian didn't threaten police. He didn't attack them. He wasn't armed. All the black teenager did was appear threatening by shooting Miami-Dade police officers a few "dehumanizing stares,"
Well he did shoot stares at them. Shooting at cops is illegal so technically the cops were in the right here.
He's also Black so its a bit more dangerous. You can't take risks in situations like this.
"once he stops resisting"
Fucking really? He's lying perfectly still yet he's "resisting arrest"?
"stop resisting"
oh lord it's like that scene from Harold and Kumar
"Neutralize the threat"
Yeah, Totally, a 14 year old was an immediate threat, walking away, you had no choice but to pin him to the ground.
it's almost as if cops like these are trying their best to ruin the image of law enforcement in general
well think about the cops in this situation. that puppy could've nipped them on the finger. thank god they were okay.
black people can weaponize ice tea and skittles so it isn't unreasonable to assume they could also weaponize a puppy
good job on all the cops, give them raises and a paid vacation to maui
"stop resisting"

Reminds me of those pink bounty hunters or whatever they're called.
he had a tactical assault puppy
What is even a dehumanizing stare? Body language as resisting? Neutralize the thereat? Two officers vs one 14 year old kid with a fucking puppy in his hand...
The charges will be dropped in court but the officer is obviously going to get off scotch free, fuck the world
It's these types of cops that people end up using the terms 'pigs' for.
these copes need to be fired and jailed ASAP

Probably won't even get a verbal warning.
Honestly, I think the puppy was at fault here, that puppy was clearly loaded and could very easily have gone off in public, honestly i think that there should be a tighter grip on puppy-control in the US, similar to what Australia or the UK has.
It's for the greater good.

People like this in general really are no better than pigs. I'm surprised police departments don't publicly get rid of cops like these ones, it'd do a hell of a lot for their image and their effectiveness.
fucking pigs
ftfy
It seems quicker to judge entire police departments rather than individuals.
Bad police departments breed bad police, and they are so corrupt that everyone covers for the really bad police.
hope they never see hypnotoad
are cops like this in other first world countries

it's so funny and so sad that this actually happens
I fucking hate cops who think they can get away with beating on innocent people because of their position. They give good cops a bad name.
It's like they haven't realized the Internet was invented.
Reminds me of those pink bounty hunters or whatever they're called.
oh god, i forgot about those nutjobs. whatever happened to them?
if only the puppy had a gun then none of this would have happened
Probably won't even get a verbal warning.
World would be a much better place if you could get huge amounts of money from unjust "Justice"
but no. The world doesn't work like that. That would be too good for honest people being beaten.
It honestly makes me both happy (No I'm genuinely not saying that in a racially hateful way) and sad I'm white and in New York suburbs. I don't have to deal with SHIT like this ever. Sad because, I can't possibly know what its like to be a black man being oppressed, or just any man at all being shit on and having no power, I can't possibly understand what its like.
Miami PD is as notorious as the LAPD when it comes to the excessive use of force.
