This is why certain people hate marriage and call it legalized slavery.
Also, many religious texts say that if you rape a woman you must marry her. So this has been a 'tradition' that has been going on for at least a thousand years.
Just for clarity: the Belgium part is about it being a morality, not violence thing. The violence is a seperate charge. Articles first line is deceiving / poorly worded, it makes it sound as if you can rape someone and be fine as long as you marry them. (Which, as seen in the article, does exist. Just not in Belgium.)
