So I brought a Tablet yesterday and first thing I made was this. It's not called to be even close to realistic - I know that assault rifle built like that could not even work.
This is my very first drawing in this style and very first drawing with tablet in photoshop. I didn't practise in shading at all before I started this pic.

[sp]Yes I made a spelling mistake because I and my fingers was tired after 3 hours non stop drawing[/sp]
-I started from left to right So this gun is a time line of my learning. Barrel - I didn't know anything about drawing like this, grip - I already have 1.5 hour experience in drawing like this.
I didn't watch any tutorials on this technique, only used my senses so I will be glad to hear some useful tips and constructive criticism on mistakes I possibly made in the drawing. Again: Unrealistic, can't exist, won't work, strange looking parts is not a mistake! This picture was my learning "playground" in this technique. Thanks!
Another question, There is some specialized programs to make timelapse recordings?
Good start with a tablet, I must say. There are different things you can do to keep your lines straight, more so in some programs over others. I love autodesk's Sketchbook for its custom ruler tools.

Can you tell me more on straight lines in photoshop?
Meh. Don't do guns. they make you look stupid.
I'd say it was way too early for you to get a tablet. You need hellot of practise with a pen and paper first.
But ohkay, start by looking up tutorials on:
perspectives
drawing basic shapes
colouring
using a tablet
sketching
and you should read alot about how mechanical devices, i.e. guns work, because the only way this hippy gun would fire is if you'd turn a blowtorch on the magazine.
Also the way you present it is horrible. We only get a good insight on the front sight, or lack thereof.
The next time you draw a gun(which will hopefully be a long way in the future) think about how you bring out all the important features.
And your excuse
Unrealistic, can't exist, won't work, strange looking parts is not a mistake!
is stupid and gives alot of ground to be negative towards you. Never use stuff like that again. You can't spell unrealism without realism.

Use a line tool and grid(whenever you allow it to be helpful) on your sketch layer.

It's not an excuse. In army I was firing and disassembling/assembling ar's. Don't think everione around is an idiot. I said two times not to say anything about realisticness or "this gun will not fire" Have a book.
If I can't draw like Da-vinchi doesn't mean that I'm a complete noob and can't draw basic shapes.
Your style... reminds me of Brett Helquist's for some reason.
The chamber is like two feet behind the magazine :psyduck:
Edit:
It looks kinda neat though

Dude, calm down. 3v3ryb0dy actually gave a lot of good advice there, I don't think he was actually insulting you or your drawing.

See, you used your excuse to attack. This is extremely discouraging towards people who are going to give critisism. You'll be tagged as an idiiot and you'll get trolled and made fun of. Like I am going to demonstrate the next time.
If I can't draw like Da-vinchi doesn't mean that I'm a complete noob and can't draw basic shapes.
Well apparently you should try and draw basic shapes more often then.
When you are sketching put down outline of what you want the finished result to be, and then break it down into lines, then into shapes, then apply perspective, break it down into shapes again, draw the position of everything that has an impact on the final product.
In the case of a gun, the recoil mechanism, feeding mechanism chambers, triggers, everything.
and then put down the lineart of what the final thing now looks like according everything you did and then overdo the final lineart with a strong pencil and add a few details.
That' is how I do shit, and this is also why I suck so much.

Sorry but you've got it wrong. To draw an object it's best to see it as gross shapes, then refine the shapes, then start finding the proper line, then cleaning up the remainder.
I didn't get it that wrong. I just told the overly overly detailed version.
in short it is yes, shapes, line and cleanup.
But on shit like that locations of inner mechanisms matter cause they are like muscles in figures.
Anyway just stay away from guns. They're a stupid thing to start with.
Nice job for a first tablet, I'd say maybe next time try an angle that is less difficult so you can focus more on the construction of the gun. (Never put rails on Kalashnikov type weapons! :argh:)

Opinion.
First of all : constructive criticism
I recommend lessons 2,4,5 and 6 for this thread
second of all :
Another question, There is some specialized programs to make timelapse recordings?
There's not one specialized programs, but I use BSR screen recorder. A lot of screen capture software has a tendency to slow your computer down or lag it up. BSR does that too... But i'm sure a google search for "screen recorder" software will get you more places than it did me. (i'm lazy so I used the first thing that popped up)

Different artists have different ways of attacking different things.
I for example outline things before I do them, but I know that most other artists block in colour and shape before digging into detail. Me, I like starting with something before carving it, other's just like carving it.
third of all: Nice job for your very first tablet drawing, mine was probably worse than this, just know that practice will get you places.
one last thing. Art is supposed to be a fun and interesting look at the things we as people want to express, weather it be the simplest doodle to a large mural dedicated to social unity. Don't make it a chore for you or other people. Be nice, accept, observe, practice, learn, acquire, create.

rated heart. I'd work on perspective, like that other guy said.
I thought this was gonna be a drawn version of the Assault Rifle from UT2004.
Well, whatever. Like the others said, work on the perspective.

Oh I outline first, but to outline I draw the gross shapes then refine them.
I have a simple solution to all the little children bickering in here.
1. Don't post your first artwork, especially if you know it does not make any sense in any form or lacks proper technique, and do not use the first time as a hope to get some ego stroking, we're not your parents.
2. We must understand the view point of the artist, to him it seems like yall are just insulting his work, even if it took 5-ect minutes/hours/days, it is his work so he feels a sense of accomplishment, and feels his art work does not deserve this.
So in a nutshell, learn some shit before posting your work, and people have an open mind and be more passive in your constructive criticism.

Can I ask you: How can I get suggestions on things that I have to improve without showing people what I made. "Hello facepunch, I drew a gun, I like it but I know it's not that good really, can you say what I need to work on. PS. No I will not show the picture itself, I know I need to improve, but I don't post my first works"
Really, I post it not for ego boost, I have it a lot already because I can do mapping, modelling, scripting, parkour and biketrial pretty neat, Painting is just another thing I will master. But I didn't learn anything from above without showing people what I can and suggestions what should I learn about.
You seem to misinterpret things, I could care less if you have mastered making gold come out of thin air it will not help you with car business or any other unrelated skill such as art. You're logic is that i go into the car design business, on the first day, draw a car with blocks for wheels in 5 minutes and tell everyone its my very first time doing it, can I have some criticism. Why not instead of bragging about not doing any practicing shading or any of the smart stuff you DIDN'T do, why not go and do that. There you go, best criticism of all is in the op, by YOURSELF. Go look at processes too if you want to see how it is done, and not on this site, on www.conceptart.org.
Mocked up something today.. Please don't insult me.

Shading seems to be bringing out almost the right parts of the face, but you forgot a lot of important details, like those wrinkles near eyes, eyelids, glossy eyes, eyelashes, those thingies connecting mouth and upper lip.
Also you didn't break it up into shapes. Faces are really damn hard things to start with. I struggled with one yesterday for a duration of hour.
go on deviantart and look for faces tutorial, eyes tutorial, hair tutorial and a general anatomy and proportions tutorial wound't hurt either. Practise with pencil and paper, since it's harder with tablet, but however you feel comfortable with. you got a long way to go.

Thanks!
I just draw different things each time to see what I can do best at the moment.
I'm currently browsing one good Russian-Ukrainian tutorial site, hundreds of great and detailed tutorials with pictures and explanations and tips. But I don't like to follow tutorials 1 to 1, I don't re-draw exactly the same thing.
That's a good thing to do. Every time before starting to do something new look up a tutorial, they might have some useful information.
Here's something the sketch should've looked like.

bit wonky, I'm not good with tablets.
Notes:
eyeline is curved along the sphere and eyes go under the eyeline, not directly over it, but it varies from face to face and style to style.
Nose goes somewhere along the bottom of the sphere.
Mouth is exacly between nose and chin.
You can fit one eye between both eyes.
The head at 45' angle is a bitch to draw. It's better to start out with profiles and full on's. alot of them.
I did the neck tad too thick, for the sake of manly.
My handwriting is impossible to read.
Also don't be afraid to use the eraser.

Waiting to see the next crazy thing you do.

Please try and keep stuff in one thread. You'll be producing shitload of stuff in the upcoming week, no need to make a separate thread for everything.

Ok, I think I will keep this stuff in "Bright future" thread. I just noticed that it represents something more than just the name of my picture ;)
an interesting mix of constructive criticism and tearing apart crap since I posted... :raise:
I suggest waiting for my upcoming thread followup to the popular "'Which tablet is right for me?' megathread", the "'I have a tablet... NOW what?' megathread". :v:
oh, PLing just posted up a nice procedural thing with a gun. Here's the post- http://www.facepunch.com/showpost.php?p=19218295&postcount=1561
