• Will Wright calls SimCity 2013's server issues "Inexcusable"
"I feel bad for the team," Wright said when asked about the troubled launch by GamesIndustry.biz following a lecture at the University of California Santa Cruz. "I could have predicted—I kind of did predict there'd be a big backlash about the DRM stuff. It's a good game; I enjoy playing it a lot... [but] that was basically inexcusable, that you charge somebody $60 for a game and they can't play it. I can understand the outrage. If I was a consumer buying the game and that happened to me, I'd feel the same."

Despite the server issues, Wright doesn't seem ready to jump on the always fashionable "let's bash EA for absolutely everything" bandwagon. "It was kind of like, 'EA is the evil empire;' there was a lot of 'Let's bash EA over it,'" he said. "It's hard to talk about EA as this monolithic thing with one agenda. If you move back, it's like all these different studios going in slightly different directions; it's almost more like a loose federation. It is going through a lot of restructuring right now, but I don't even have the time to tune into it."
http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2013/05/original-simcity-creator-calls-eas-server-problems-inexcusable/ HOPEFULLY the new 3.0 patch that's coming out later this week fixes all the bullshit that has been plaguing the game since its release
It's just my prayer that whatever Star Wars games that get churned out are at least half decent compared to this
Wright's a pretty cool dude and his perception of EA is a lot more realistic than a lot of people's vision of them being some horrible Bond villain with a money lust
Will Wright was probably fine with all the other stuff though, considering he thought the later Simcity games were too complicated, and didn't want to make the games for the core fans anymore.
This makes me wonder if he had anything to do with the horrible Spore DRM. It's kinda sad looking back, the Spore DRM was baby stuff compared to the stuff we see today.
This makes me wonder if he had anything to do with the horrible Spore DRM. It's kinda sad looking back, the Spore DRM was baby stuff compared to the stuff we see today.
I wouldn't say that. Didn't Spore's DRM brick a few people's cd drives?
Wright's a pretty cool dude and his perception of EA is a lot more realistic than a lot of people's vision of them being some horrible Bond villain with a money lust
Not true I saw EA shoot a homeless guy one time
I wouldn't say that. Didn't Spore's DRM brick a few people's cd drives?
It made mine open and close whenever it felt like. :v:
thank god will wright is saying something about how crappy his game has become, just like he did after spore, too bad hes not got any clout to do anything about it [editline]7th May 2013[/editline] didnt the last patch they put out break the game even worse by making it litterally full of shit? [editline]7th May 2013[/editline] EA's problem is its too huge to be properly managed, its got no corprate identity, it gobbled up all those small and medium sized studios back in the early 2000s, now they sit on a goldmine of IP but they don't have a good idea of how to do much else except make the sims and sports games, they are too bloated
thank god will wright is saying something about how crappy his game has become, just like he did after spore
He didn't say that at all. In fact he said "It's a good game and I enjoy playing it alot."
I agree with him.
To be honest I dont like jumping on the bandwagon. But at some point there seems to be a big misinterpretation as to what we want as gamers. EA games have so much potential. But someone, somewhere is stopping that.

This SimCity is all i ever needed, i have been playing it since a few days and i got all the space i'd ever need. Funny to see my savegame from the 90ies though :v:.
I wouldn't say that. Didn't Spore's DRM brick a few people's cd drives?
That was a thing? Perhaps it's why my cd drive doesn't work, and hasn't for the past couple of years.
"It's hard to talk about EA as this monolithic thing with one agenda. He's kind of explaining how this colossal fuck up resulted because of a bunch of different guys trying to pull the game in different directions.
HOPEFULLY the new 3.0 patch that's coming out later this week fixes all the bullshit that has been plaguing the game since its release
Up until the game spams alien invasions and makes the buildings whisper homicidal things. But really, I hope they can fix it once and for all. (also, I think Will Wright is scared of EA...)
Why wasn't this bit bolded? He's kind of explaining how this colossal fuck up resulted because of a bunch of different guys trying to pull the game in different directions.
Does it matter if it was bolded or not? People should read the whole quote regardless
The games been out two month and they're releasing a '3.0' patch already? Jesus fucking christ.
