North Korea and South Korea are separated by the most heavily armed border on Earth. But rest easy, there's a new guard on the lookout: Kinect.P
Self-taught South Korean programmer Jae Kwan Ko developed a Kinect-based software system to monitor the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone), which separates the two countries. It was deployed at the border last August, but its existence wasn't made public until recently.P
According to news site Hankooki (via tipster Sang), the Kinect-based system identifies objects crossing the DMZ. It can discern the difference between animals and humans. If the system detects a human, it will alert the nearby outpost.
"Xbox, launch missile."
But the Kinect is terrible at identifying humans 6 feet in front of it let alone hundreds of meters away.
Then again, I guess when you actually know how to use the tech, you can make something that actually works.
They should set up Just Dance 2014, and if you get a good rank, you can pass. If not, you get executed.
what about a person on all fours in a fursuit?
jokes aside this is pretty neat, I wish my kinect worked tho

No, the way Microsoft made their software makes it horrible at doing that. I'm certain that a decent programmer can use the hardware in a more efficient way. (As he has, obviously)
I always like seeing those pictures of the SK and NK guards facing each other at those certain points in the DMZ. Just fascinating I guess.
This is the only place it will ever be useful

And for doctors* + the kinect 2 is shitloads better than the kinect 1

So in other words, you don't fucking know how it works.
So, black people can cross the border freely?

"based"

Kinect is a damn great piece of tech - I've seen people do a lot of very cool stuff with it. How Microsoft managed to completely fuck it up to the point where it's considered an unnecessary gimmick I will never understand.

i think their forcing it on everyone kinda shat on its image
So you could actually pull the classic "hide in a bush costume and sneak in past the cameras" :v:

I'm pretty sure Kinect wouldn't recognize this :v:

especially with giant kinects on the rooftop

in other words, he started with a kinect and probably uses a pair of high-powered cameras for the final product

Kinect in Garry's Mod is the coolest way I've seen it implemented so far.
South Korea suddenly hires 300 black spies, they all walk past Kinnect unnoticed.

How is it microsoft that fucked up the implementation? It's game developers doing shitty things with it. Do you mean like the SDKs for programming using it, and in that case, have you actually tried them or are you just assuming?
