Speaking in response to fan questioning via Twitter, Bethesda has said it's working on restoring the game to Steam "at the earliest possible date".
Also, apparent confirmation that Fallout 3 will not receive a patch to remove GFWL:

It shouldn't be that difficult, just remove it when the legal stuff blows over. Or are you just that lazy.
Did GoG not ask bethesda before doing the free thing?

They have to re-write the save game system and CD key checks, not just as simple as deleting the GfWL files.
Makes me glad i was not a part of the free GoG fallout deal. I got 1, 2, and Tactics awhile ago on Steam.

Anyone who owned the games on GOG before they were removed still owns them. And can still install them.

I didn't say it was that easy, i was saying that little extra effort would be nice. It wouldn't be resource heavy.

It has nothing to do with the 'Free thing'.
December 31st was the last day Interplay had the rights to the game. Since they no longer have the rights it couldn't be sold. The rights now belong to Bethesda.
As per prior agreements, Interplay could continue to sell the older fallout titles until the end of 2013.

Why would they ask Bethesda
Interplay owned the license. They knew the license to the FO games ended Dec 31, so that's the whole reason they gave it away for free.
