Since the forum for urbexing no longer exists and there isn't a new thread yet, I'll get one going. I copied and pasted the guidelines from the megathread in the old forum. Welcome to the new chat thread. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What you can do within the megathread is.. -Share your adventures that don't deserve a thread. -Chat to other explorers about how to break down doors more efficiently. -Give people tips on how to take great images in low light conditions. -Post photos of shoes in black and white. -Chat about power tools. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Urbexing thread guidlines: No.1 No asking for locations/leads/rumours No.2 Do not make a new thread asking for locations/leads/rumours No.3 Do not put the exact day you went on your thread title (Month and year is fine). No.4 Keep photos to a reasonable size when posting. No.5 Do not post leads/rumours no.6 Do not make a new thread asking what equipment to use while urbexing. Follow the rules, behave and don't start any drama.
Posting from the old subforum:
So I didn't know this place even existed until yesterday when I went to a park with my friend, and she commented about a restricted area called "The Depot" and I've always wanted to go exploring so we went! This place was like nothing I expected. It had roads that went on for miles and had a generally eerie feel to it, almost like an abandoned town. The Depot was home to many abandoned things, unfortunately it was getting dark and we were kinda sorta being chased by these people so we didn't stay long. Here are some pictures. Some pictures are blurry because we were in a rush, being chased and all. [t]http://i.imgur.com/u6eqsiv.jpg[/t] [I]Weird broken pottery on this road. "The Depot" is literally just a depot. It's a GSA Depot which had its land transferred to the county. It was previously used for storing just about everything (including mercury not too far from where we were so :tinfoil:) and a prisoner of war camp. Ever since the transfer to county property my town has been trying to make it into a park, and got a tiny bit of it done (hence me being at the park when I heard about this). I'm assuming they either gave up or ran out of funding because that barren area was MASSIVE. But hey we saw a coyote :v:. article about this (2009): http://www.nj.com/reporter/index.ssf/2009/10/hillsborough_gsa_depot_from_pr.html [editline]21st July 2014[/editline] So those fields that I thought were plowed or something, yeah that's just the remains of acres of pulled up concrete.

Posting from the old subforum:
Hey, I just read a post by you a few minutes ago in the web design WAYWO :v: About how many abandoned vehicles were there?
Hey, I just read a post by you a few minutes ago in the web design WAYWO :v: About how many abandoned vehicles were there?
Three, I think. It was last summer so I don't remember all that much. There was like a excavation site or something that had tons of conveyors and other abandoned equipment nearby, but it was getting too dark to investigate it.
I am going to start scouting more locations tomorrow. I always start with looking at Google Earth for brown/gray looking areas that look like possible buildings, then I go into Street View and try to get a closer look at it. A lot of good places are obviously off of a main road though so if it's close I can even just drive there and check it out to see if it's any good.
Posting from the old subforum:
Got to ask, any idea why the owners of those vehicle would just ditch them there? A crane and dump truck must cost a ton.
Got to ask, any idea why the owners of those vehicle would just ditch them there? A crane and dump truck must cost a ton.
There's honestly no reason I could think of for leaving those there... I'm sure even if the funding was pulled, or the owner died, or something, the vehicles would still have been removed.
