For those who dont know, Touch Typing is typing something on a computer (or anything else that uses a keyboard) without using your sense of sight to find the keys. Lets have a little lesson shall we?

This is a keyboard, and as you can see the keys A, S, D, F, J, K, L and ; are highlighted. Why? Well this is what's called the "Home Row" this is basically where your fingers should be when you begin typing, this is why there are small notches on the F and J keys, to tell you that your index fingers are on the right keys like below.

The Touch Typing method was originally thought of by Frank Edward McGurrin of Salt Lake City, he was a court stenographer (He typed what the Jury, Judge, Defendent etc said) and taught typing classes.
Usually once you have fully learnt Touch Typing (which can take about a month), you can achieve up to 60 or even 70 WPM (or Words Per Minute), here are some techniques to help you on your way to typing enlightenment.
* Make sure you keep a good posture, slouching can really mess you up.
* Only press as light as you can, so no keyboard mashing.
* Take frequent breaks, it really can help improve your speed and accuracy.
* Waiting for some time can really increase your speed even with no practise.
If you're really hardcore you can buy a special Touch Typing keyboard like these.

I hope you guys enjoy this!
I can touch type but I sitll don't use the correct fingers for certain keys or whatever
If you use the computer enough you gain this skill naturally.

I've never used it but i'm sure it's a good keyboard.
I can touch type but the home keys i use are
Tab,Q,S,Space,U,H,I
Ok I'm trying. But I have strange habit to look at keyboard for a second :D
I haven't looked at the keys when I type in about 6 years.
My hands Spaz all over the keyboard and i still get all the keys right at around 56 WPM
About 140 WPM here.

It's alright to do that, if you need a bit of reassurance, than do it.
testing my writing speed :D
i'm up in 140 wpm, i generally type faster than my brain interprets letters and things to type in programs to measure my speed. I don't use the home keys either.
I can type fine without looking at the keyboard, but I only use my pointer and middle fingers, and occasionally my ring finger.
I rest my fingers on the WASD keys.
Got used to it after a while.
Can still touch type, etc.
I had a program when i was young...
It just told me to type:
jkcll jkcll deed deed tololoa tololoa DoDoDoD DoDoDoD
And loads of other shitty made up words. It never went onto real words.
It's like forcing someone to hold a pen in a particular way...Each person eventually finds a comfortable position and sticks with it.
This thread made me notice, my right hand moves alot more than my left hand during typing.
I can type around 60 WPM, but I have to look at the keyboard most of the time. It's weird, I can just unfocus my eyes and I can magically type better than when I look away. It's weird like that. But I frequently misplace my fingers about a millimeter, so I hit the wrong keys.
I can type at about 100 wpm if I'm just typing out my thoughts, copying something down though I'm closer to about 60wpm.
Can't see myself getting any better though, I wonder how some people on here type at 140wpm.

I do that for my right hand mostly.
In fact, my left hand does the majority of the typing.

Let's do this shit.

Race me here
My left hand is shifted left a key (Small finger on shift, asd then, mainly because of.. you know what games :D), and I type like 400 chars per minute.
I typed this whole sentence using only 2 fingers without looking at the keyboard.
...
I'm such a nerd. :frown:
I can do it too I actually barely ever look anymore, I will keep typing like this without looking, even my damn eyes ate closed.

Wow I can't even keep myself from typing with more than two fingers anymore.
Doesn't like everyone who is somewhat computer literate type efficiently nowadays?
(Yes, I said computer literate, because I still see lots of idiot typing with two fingers while staring on the keyboard)

They were closed so I did T instead of R, everyone makes mistakes :P
