It will now head to the full House of Representatives for consideration. Rep. Thomas Carmody, R-Shreveport, originally filed a bill to declare a specific copy of the Bible, found in the Louisiana State Museum system, the official state book. But by the time he presented the proposal to the committee, he changed language in his legislation to make the generic King James version of the Bible, a text used worldwide, the official state book. Carmody said his intention was not to mingle religion with government functions. "This is not about establishing an official religion," he said. Cool, although I would have preferred NIV
How is this not endorsing a religion?
Proudly marching into the 20th Century, yes sir.
Ew, that's bad even for Christians. KJV is the least accurate translation available.
Funny how this is exactly the reason for the separation of Church and State. Americans didn't want to be like Great Britain and have the state dictate what bibles people were to be used and how people were to practice their faiths.
Ew, that's bad even for Christians. KJV is the least accurate translation available.
It's the only translation worth reading, considering it's where all the memorable verses and references in literature come from.
About time someone did this. There is only ONE true and honest God and boy howdy it sure as hell aint moohammad -J.
Separation of state and church? What's that?
christan eagles shedding tears this is true murica
Ew, that's bad even for Christians. KJV is the least accurate translation available.
all bibles aren't accurate, they've been changed so many times but king james is what we draw parts of our law from in most parts of the world.
How is this not endorsing a religion?
Because it seems like to a lot politicians down here, separation of church and state is more of a suggestion than anything when it comes to Christianity.
Meanwhile Jesus is formally a king of Poland We all share the pain with you
Snip, I can't pick up on sarcasm.
About time someone did this. There is only ONE true and honest God and boy howdy it sure as hell aint moohammad -J.
Damn straight. Praise be to Zeus.
Damn straight. Praise be to Zeus.
No Apollo.
all bibles aren't accurate, they've been changed so many times but king james is what we draw parts of our law from in most parts of the world.
ya but it is the most poorly translated of them all, go download a bible app, they have 3-5 editions loaded, and the KJV doesn't even match some of the older translations, and defenatly doesn't match the new translations that are taken from older texts [editline]11th April 2014[/editline] this is stupid though, what next, Utah adopting the book of Mormon as the official book
Cool, although I would have preferred NIV
The KJV is a beautiful work, even Richard Dawkins, prominent atheist, says it's an achievement. The NIV may be more readable but it is not of as much literary merit.
IIRC this would pretty much make it illegal to destroy or otherwise harm in any way, a copy of this book. I'm not a law expert though. Either way, this is typical of Louisiana.
The KJV is a beautiful work, even Richard Dawkins, prominent atheist, says it's an achievement. As for the OP, I think nominating a state book at all is pretty dumb anyways. Books are bundles of ideology; unless they select Captain Underpants or something people are bound to get pissed
The KJV is a beautiful work
Well 20th century vs 17th century. Its an achievement but we have more knowledge and less monarch/corrupt church influence on how things are translated. .
Will pay to be moved

And here I was all along thinking that Virginia was an ass backwards state.
Meanwhile Jesus is formally a king of Poland We all share the pain with you
Wait, what? What the fuck. That's retarded.
Cool, although I would have preferred NIV
ESV or bust. [editline]11th April 2014[/editline]
It's the only translation worth reading, considering it's where all the memorable verses and references in literature come from.
It's arguably the most historically relevant translation of the Bible.
Guys I swear not everyone in this state is this stupidly religious
Damn straight. Praise be to Nurgle, Father of Disease
FTFY
I think they should make the Koran the state book instead.
